Taxes
We’re doing our taxes. My head is about to explode with too many thoughts about ordinary dividends, percentage this, cost basis that, Form 1099-Div., or is it -Int., or is it -A, -B, -S or -R? Gawd.
While I was making dinner last night I watched a show about Estonia hosted by Rudy Maxa on PBS. Maxa said Estonia has a flat tax (everyone pays the same percentage (I forgot how much)), 80% of the people file online and it takes about 15 minutes. It sounded so deliciously sane and fair and modern.
Webcam of Wilkins Ice Shelf
As you may have heard, a huge chunk of Antarctic ice called the Wilkins Ice Shelf – it’s roughly the size of Scotland – is expected to break away at any moment from the island to which it has been tethered for hundreds if not thousands of years. The European Space Agency has a “webcam” fixed on the Shelf and is “monitoring the developments immediately as they occur.” You can see it here.
