Be a “Citizen Scientist” and Help Us Understand Global Warming

What a great idea: The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado created what it calls, Project BudBurst (here’s the website), to collect data from “citizen scientists” that will be used “to better understand how global warming is affecting the life cycle of flowers, trees and grasses.”
In March, for example, researchers in Japan announced that cherry blossoms appeared in Tokyo a week earlier than average for the fourth year in a row. Throughout Japan, flowers are blooming 125 miles farther north on a particular day than they did 40 years ago.
These are the types of observations that Project BudBurst may make possible for more American plants in the future.
The public is invited encouraged to send in their observations. Check out the site. It’s really cool. I think school-aged kids would love to work on a project like this.
