From Socialism to Facism to…?
We’ve got a long way to go (knock on wood).
“Dating a Banker Anonymous”
I stumbled upon “DABAGirls” about six months ago. I check in every once in a while and I’m always astonished at how spoiled, conniving and whiny the DABA girls women are. Still, it’s interesting – though a world away – and I like it because I get a glimpse of what’s happening in the underbelly of Wall Street’s NYC.
Would You be “Re-Elected” if You Cost Your Employer $37 Billion?
So Is It “Countdown with David Schuster”?
Keith Olbermann is “off tonight,” again. I like Olbermann. I watch Countdown to hear his take on things. I like his fire. David Schuster is a good guy but he doesn’t have Olbermann’s passion.
I suggest that MSNBC get its act together in terms of having Olbermann on, or not.
The Countdown Begins – How Long Will it Take John Shadegg to Apologize to Rush Limbaugh?
Uh-oh. John Shadegg (R-AZ) told The Arizona Republic* “during the two-week congressional recess, which ended last weekend” that he “disagrees with radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, who has said he hopes Obama and his liberal policies fail.” He said, “I think he [Limbaugh] is an entertainment personality who is an interesting factor in American politics. I agree with much of what he says on some issues, but not on other issues.”
Ticktock. Ticktock. I say oh, 36 hours, max.
UPDATE: I was wrong, wrong, wrong. It took only hours for Shadegg to cave.
* The Arizona Republic has since replaced the article I linked to above with something more favorable to Shadegg. That’s the “liberal media” for ya. Remind me to take a screen shot of everything I post.
Jane Harman Gets Caught in a Trap She Helped Create
Glenn Greenwald, as always, nails it.
New Wingnuttery About “Death Taxes”
There’s something new coming from the wingers that, as usual, makes absolutely no sense: If we do away with the estate tax (aka “death taxes”*), we’ll create 1.5 million jobs:
A new report published by former John McCain economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin shows that if the death tax went from its current 45-percent rate to zero, it would add 1.5 million jobs to the U.S. economy.
Yeah, right. Just like if we reduce taxes on the rich that’ll create more jobs. Talk about playing on people’s fears.
* There is no such thing as “death taxes.” The right made that term up to use when talking about estate taxes because everyone dies so the implication is that everyone will have to pay “death taxes.” Fact is, only people who have an estate worth $3.5 million are subject to estate taxes. That means 90-some percent (or more) of us have nothing to worry about. But the rich wingers want to scare you into thinking you do, so you’ll do their bidding for them and work to make it so they don’t have to pay.
Tea Bags v. Dime Bags
Every year on April 20, students at the University of Colorado in Boulder gather for what is loosely billed as the “great American smoke out.” The smoke out is a protest against drug laws and it’s a peaceful, fun gathering during which the participants hang out and smoke a lot of pot. Last year the police issued some citations; this year they didn’t. 8,000 to 10,000 people participated in yesterday’s event
Compare that to the 5,000+ who attended the “tea party” in Denver last Wednesday and to the fact that there were no “tea party” protests in Boulder at all.
Yet which one did the “liberal media” cover 24/7 for days?
Hey, Cable “News” – Time for a New Post
Maybe it’s just me but when I go to a website and a post is sitting at the top of the page that has been there for days, I move on. When are the cable “news” shows going to get that? Four, or is it five days on, the “post” about Obama shaking hands with Chavez is still at the top of their page.
Time for a new post already.
