New Wingnuttery About “Death Taxes”

There’s something new coming from the wingers that, as usual, makes absolutely no sense: If we do away with the estate tax (aka “death taxes”*), we’ll create 1.5 million jobs:
A new report published by former John McCain economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin shows that if the death tax went from its current 45-percent rate to zero, it would add 1.5 million jobs to the U.S. economy.
Yeah, right. Just like if we reduce taxes on the rich that’ll create more jobs. Talk about playing on people’s fears.
* There is no such thing as “death taxes.” The right made that term up to use when talking about estate taxes because everyone dies so the implication is that everyone will have to pay “death taxes.” Fact is, only people who have an estate worth $3.5 million are subject to estate taxes. That means 90-some percent (or more) of us have nothing to worry about. But the rich wingers want to scare you into thinking you do, so you’ll do their bidding for them and work to make it so they don’t have to pay.
