Some Truth From Fox News (For a Change)
It is my opinion that Fox “News” has been the loudest voice in ginning up right-wing anger in this country so kudos to Shepard Smith for the honesty he brought to his show today. He acknowledged that “since the election process went on,” the hate mail he receives has become “more and more frightening;” that it comes from people who are “in a scary place,” and that it’s “hate that’s not based in fact.”
Too bad he didn’t point to his colleagues Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly and Neil Cavuto as purveyors of the (inaccurate) “facts” some people base their hate on. But again, I thank him for punching a little hole in the wall:

Time to Infiltrate the Quakers Again
Given the murder of Dr. George Tiller and the shooting at the Holocaust museum today, it might be time for the feds to turn their attention to the Quakers again, huh?
Gawd.
Does Fox’s Audience Think the U.S. Is One of the “Largest Muslim Countries”?
I clicked over to FoxNews.com and then on to FoxNation.com a few minutes ago and my eye was drawn to the title in the lower right-hand corner of this screenshot: “Fact Check: U.S. is NOT ‘One of the Largest Muslim Countries.’”

After clicking on the title, I was directed to a U.S. News & World Report site and a large map of the world that looked a lot like this (there was no URL on the one I was sent to). It’s an interactive map showing all the countries of the world and the percentage of Muslims in each. The U.S. is in the lowest tier, with 4.9 – 0% of its population belonging to the faith. In contrast, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Jordan, for example, are in the 100-90% tier.
Does Fox’s audience actually think that the U.S. MIGHT be one of the largest Muslim countries? Maybe so. Given the fear-mongering that goes on on Fox — what with a Muslim terrorist under every rock and around every corner — I guess a “fact check” like this is required. Sad.
Shooting at the Holocaust Memorial Museum
Oh God. Please don’t have it be about some whack job out to impress Sean Hannity.
Update: MSNBC is reporting that two DC police officials told it that the suspect (who was born in 1920) has connections to “anti-government, White Supremacist organizations.”
Update II: His name is James Whittaker von Brunn. Here’s his website.
Hey, Let’s Stop Using the Word “Czar”
As of today we’ve got another one: The “Compensation Czar.”
We already have a “drug czar” and a “border czar” and a “car czar.” The word “czar” conjures up thoughts of a dictatorial ruler and I think we can do without that. I have the same objection to the use of the word “general” as in the “Postmaster General,” or the “Surgeon General.” Leave the generals to the military.
Ah Yes, Another Example of Censorship and of How the Powers That Be Protect Each Other
It involves Newsweek editor Jon Meacham, Joe Scarborough, and what they’d rather we not know about Joe.
(Here’s a picture of John Meacham. News junkies will probably recognize his face. Keep it mind. The next time you see him on television, know he speaks with forked tongue.
Mitt Romney: Elite and Proud of It
Mitt Romney and his “Free, Strong America PAC” are sponsoring an essay contest, the winner of which will receive an “all-expense paid trip for 2″ to Fenway Park in Boston to watch a Red Sox game in the “Romney family seats” (would that actually be a “box”?).
Rumor has it that Mitt intends to run for president in 2012. Who knows what the climate will be like then but he might want to begin to think about toning it down a bit. Millionaire elitists leave something of a bad taste in people’s mouths these days.
