UnitedHealth Throwing a Big Shindig for Nancy Pelosi
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the first time today suggested she may be backing off her support of the public option.”
Wow. What a coincidence! Today Steve Elmendorf, a registered UnitedHealth lobbyist, “blasted” an email “throughout Washington, D.C.” (see above link), announcing that he will hold an “event with Speaker Pelosi” at his home on September 24.
Per Republicans — The Health Care System Isn’t Broken?
Earlier this week Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) said, “The American people want us to do everything we can to stop it [health care reform].”
I suggest Boehner talk to some of the people who camped out overnight in Brighton, Colorado lastnight to be seen at a free dental clinic there today. The line was capped at 808 patients, as that was the number the organizers thought could realistically be treated in one day.
David Hathaway, 49, of Arvada was second in line. He is unemployed with no insurance. He heard about the opportunity for free dental care at 3:30 Thursday afternoon and said to himself, “I gotta get out there,” he related.
This morning he has already had two root canals and expects to leave with a cleaning and a tooth extraction as well.
“This is a godsend,” he said. “I think it’s great what they are offering.”
The clinic continues tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted.
Lead By Example
It pisses me off that our government is essentially teaching kids that it’s okay to lie by not prosecuting people who have perjured themselves before congress. BEFORE CONGRESS!
Slow Day
Slow day at the food bank today, but we did take in some wonderful fresh produce donated by a local farm: Green peppers, Anaheim chilis, eggplant, onions, cucumbers and fingerling potatoes.
