Joseph Stiglitz: “Who’s Going to Finance the U.S. Government?”

Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz wonders:  Who’s Going to Finance the U.S. Government?

Good question.

Insofar as George W. Bush drove the country into the ground in every which way possible, I want to know the answer to that too.

You Know Times Have Changed When Fox News Blows Off Osama Bin Laden

You know times have changed when Fox “News” dismisses a tape released by Osama  Bin Laden — as their news reader just did — so they can cut to the case of a missing Yale University student.

But still, let’s not forget the recent past and how Fox (w/the Bush administration’s blessing) terrorized us for years by keeping images like this on-screen 24/7:

Terror Threat Level

We’re the “Greatest Nation On Earth”?

While we screw around talking about birthers and the Tenth Amendment, ceding, and shooting ourselves in the foot over health care, Denmark  has dealt with all of that already. Denmark has moved on to — get this –  building superhighways for bicycles.

They’ll have the last laugh.  We think we’re the “greatest nation on Earth?”  We look like barbarians in comparison.

The Difference Between 70,000 Protesters and 2,000,000 Protesters

Yesterday I read somewhere that the Washington, D.C. fire department estimated the crowd at the tea party protest to be in the neighborhood of 70,000.  I also read that one of the organizations that helped put on the rally estimated the attendees at 1.5 million.  Then today I read that Michelle Malkin is claiming 2 million.  The difference between 70,000 and 2 million is huge.  Check it out.

I tend to think the fire department, albeit a socialist commie pinko entity, is the more reliable source here.

Yes!

God I hope Obama reads Frank Rich.  Rich nails it in his piece today.  My three favorite sentences:

The day before he gave his latest brilliant speech, Barack Obama repeated a well-worn mantra to a television interviewer : “My job is not to be distracted by the 24-hour news cycle.” The time has come for him to expand that job description. His White House has a duty to push back against the 24-hour news cycle, every 24 hours if necessary, when it threatens to derail his agenda, the nation’s business, or both.
