Mary Travers is Blowing in the Wind
Mary Travers died today.

This is heartbreaking. Peter, Paul & Mary — and My Fair Lady, Prokofiev’s Cinderella and The Weavers (who were blacklisted by the McCarthyites (newly popular these days) — were my favorites when I was eight or nine years old and they have been since (along with The Beatles, the Moody Blues, The Who, etc.).
For 50 years I took comfort and courage from PP&M’s words of hope regarding workers’ rights, the struggle against the war machine, corporatization, and the power of the human spirit.
So sad their combined voices will never be heard again.
I miss you already Mary.
Watch Those Carbs
I know people who do this kind of thing.
Lou Dobbs Has Got to Go
Media Matters has issued a call to action — let’s get hate monger Lou Dobbs off the air. Read more here about what they’re up to and what YOU can do.
(Hey, don’t get me wrong. I will defend Dobbs’ right to say what he wants to say but he should not be on a “news” channel when he does it. He lies and distorts and that is not news. And that is the heart of my problem with Fox “News.” I’ll fight to the end to defend their right to say what they want to say but to do so under the cover of supposed “fair and balanced news” is wrong.
A Tube of Caulk in the Middle of the Ocean?
I am following Lindsey Hoshaw — also known as The Garbage Girl — who is on a boat heading to the middle of the Pacific ocean in search of the giant swirl of plastic trash that’s out there somewhere. Today she tweeted:

Can you imagine? These guys are waaaaaay out at sea and they come across a caulking tube with a little fish living in it? How sad is that? We are really wrecking this planet.
Bipartisanship and the “Liberal Media”
Republicans have stated, in so many words, that they are not going to support health care reform. Period. So it is really starting to drive me nuts when the “liberal media” turns to Democrats and asks them why they can’t get “bipartisan support,” as if it’s their fault.
Does Not Compute
This morning The Atlantic magazine released a list of the 50 most influential “opinion makers.“ The liberal economist Paul Krugman is #1 and the winger blowhard Rush Limbaugh is #2. Which one of these two people does the ahem, “liberal media” talk about most often?
Bingo!
4 Bazillion People on the Mall in D.C. Last Saturday
Here’s a pretty funny dissection of the wingers’ claims about the number of people on The Mall last Saturday.
Ah, Sleep
Here’s a delightful little blog post about how difficult it can be to get a good night’s sleep.
