A Tube of Caulk in the Middle of the Ocean?

I am following Lindsey Hoshaw — also known as The Garbage Girl — who is on a boat heading to the middle of the Pacific ocean in search of the giant swirl of plastic trash that’s out there somewhere.  Today she tweeted:

9-16 Garbage

Can you imagine?  These guys are waaaaaay out at sea and they come across a caulking tube with a little fish living in it?  How sad is that?  We are really wrecking this planet.
