Mary Travers is Blowing in the Wind

Mary Travers died today.

This is heartbreaking. Peter, Paul & Mary — and My Fair Lady, Prokofiev’s Cinderella and The Weavers (who were blacklisted by the McCarthyites (newly popular these days) — were my favorites when I was eight or nine years old and they have been since (along with The Beatles, the Moody Blues, The Who, etc.).
For 50 years I took comfort and courage from PP&M’s words of hope regarding workers’ rights, the struggle against the war machine, corporatization, and the power of the human spirit.
So sad their combined voices will never be heard again.
I miss you already Mary.

Oh no! I hadn’t heard this. You’d think someone would have mentioned it at the bluegrass (and folk) festival I was just at.
