George W. Bush Burned in Effigy in Montreal

George W. Bush was in Montreal representing our country today:

–  Montreal Demonstrators Throw Shoes to Protest George W. Bush Speech.

Bush’s Effigy Burned Outside Montreal Hotel.

–  Shoes Fly as George W. Bush Speaks in Montreal.

Shoes at Bush 10-22

If something like this happened  to Bill Clinton — in a foreign country — nine months after he left office — you know the “liberal media” would have been all over it.

Where are they now?

MSNBC is as Liberal as Fox News is Conservative?

An observation:

Fox’s slogan is “Fair and Balanced.”

MSNBC’s slogan is “The Place for Politics.”

Which is more honest?

Newsmax is probably one of the most conservative sites out there.  Undoubtedly it is bookmarked by almost every single Palin fan.  It claims that Palin’s book, “is the best-selling book ever in the history of Newsmax for pre-publication sales.”  It’s “smashing records,” the “demand is huge.” So why is it (1) giving the book away for free? and, (2) selling it at “more than $20 off the cover price?” You know what I mean?  This does not compute.  As a matter of fact, it sounds like a bunch of crap.

Oh, and by the way, Newmax’s discounted price is not “much cheaper than Amazon.”  Amazon is selling the book for a mere 5¢ more.  You know, when you lie about little stuff like that it kinda ruins your credibility.

Joy Personified

Here’s video (can’t get it to embed) of a Beagle puppy attacking a very sweet Rottweiller.  It takes a while to load but it’s worth it.  It’s so cute.

Veterans Call for Resignation of Pa. GOP State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe

More proof — as if we need any — that you’re a patriot in the eyes of the Republicans only if you believe what they believe:

Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are running a blistering new radio ad locally, calling on State Representative Daryl Metcalfe to resign over his comments that those veterans who are fighting for energy security are “traitors.”

[...]

In an email sent widely, Metcalfe stated that any veteran concerned about the flow of oil dollars to Middle East terrorists and fighting for a new American Clean Energy plan is a “traitor to the oath he or she took defend the Constitution of our great nation!  Remember Benedict Arnold before giving credibility to a veteran who uses their service as a means to promote a leftist agenda.”

Did you get that?  Part of what the veterans are advocating is that we develop alternative sources of energy so we aren’t sending our money to the Middle East.  In Metcalfe’s opinion, that makes them traitors.

These people are so wedded to protecting corporate interests they can’t see straight.

Going Rouge: Sarah Palin — An American Nightmare

That is the title of a book The Nation is working on about Sarah Palin.  Both it and Palin’s book will be released on November 17.  (Hee hee.)

Richard Kim, a senior editor at the weekly magazine, and The Nation’s Executive Editor Betsy Reed told Politico:

The cover is a parody of hers and it certainly takes some shots and mocks Sarah Palin, but it is a very serious book and the book itself is not a parody, Kim said. It is not at all intended as a joke or a parody.

Mike Huckabee Would Abolish FEMA

Mike Huckabee addressed the annual convention of the Salvation Army last night in Jackson, Mississippi.  During his speech he was critical of “the role of government in assisting in emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina.”   He spoke to reporters beforehand:

Frankly, I’d rather see the kind of help that people need come through a relief agency than necessarily just come in a check in the mailbox from the government, Huckabee told reporters before the dinner.

Because behind every bit of help that the Salvation Army gives is not just sterile, cold and indifferent,” Huckabee said. “It is also being delivered by somebody who has a heart filled with love and who wants to share more than just the basic human needs, but also the emotional support and the spiritual support. It’s one thing to just give a person a sandwich, but sometimes a sandwich plus a hug means a whole lot more and makes the sandwich taste better.

Seems to me that the government’s response during the past eight years — specifically FEMA’s — was poor not because the agencies themselves were inefficient or “sterile, cold,” but because the people W. appointed to run them were.  Not only that:  If I ever need FEMA-style aid, I don’t want the person bandaging my arm to simultaneously try to convert me to his or her religion.

Glenn Beck Thinks OnStar is a Commie Plot

Amazing how all of a sudden things that have been around for years are taking on new meaning, huh?  I mean, you know, now that we have a scary Muslim guy from Kenya in the White House.

Dickhead Alert

Cheney says President Obama is “afraid to make a decision” on Afghanistan.

Wrong again you war criminal dickhead.  The place is such a mess — thanks to you and Georgie Porgie — that he’s thinking things through.  You know,  like how to deal with the major “industry” being opium; with the totally corrupt government (I wouldn’t want a friend or relative of mine dying on behalf of Karzai), the tribal culture and oh, the expense (in lives and money) to name but a few pesky issues.  In other words, he’s trying to unravel what’s going on before he goes off half-cocked like you assholes did.

Quote of the Day

86-year-old Philip Spooner, a WWII veteran, speaking in favor of allowing gay marriage in Maine:

My wife of 54 years, Jenny, died in 1997. Together we had four children, including the one gay son.

[...]

My wife and I did not raise four sons with the idea that three of them would have a certain set of rights, but our gay child would be left out.

Obama Leads in Polling Against Potential 2012 Challengers

From Public Policy Polling:

Almost a year after his election as President, Barack Obama continues to lead his most likely 2012 rivals in hypothetical contests for reelection.

Obama leads Mike Huckabee 47-43, Mitt Romney 48-40, Sarah Palin 52-40, and Tim Pawlenty 50-30.

Ouch.  Then again, that’s a higher number for Huckabee that I would have predicted.

Whining Wingers

What’s with the wingers whining about President Obama’s off-the-record meeting with liberal journalists on Monday?  Don’t they remember that immediately before the inauguration he had dinner at George Will’s house, which was attended by the likes of Bill Kristol for God’s sake?

And don’t they remember that W. hunkered down with conservative radio talkers (including Sean Hannity, who, of course is also on television) in 2006 for meeting which was also off-the-record? Of course they remember; but they’re hoping you don’t.

The White House’s War on Fox?

No, it’s the other way around folks.

When was it that President Obama criticized Fox?  About three weeks ago?  Take a look at what Fox has been doing since January 20:

In my opinion he showed tremendous patience.

Pass the Chips (or Not)

Junk food turns rats into addicts:

Junk food elicits addictive behavior in rats similar to the behaviors of rats addicted to heroin, a new study finds. Pleasure centers in the brains of rats addicted to high-fat, high-calorie diets became less responsive as the binging wore on, making the rats consume more and more food. The results, presented October 20 at the Society for Neuroscience’s annual meeting, may help explain the changes in the brain that lead people to overeat.
