Democrat Bill Owens Wins NY-23

Let the war between Palin/Pawlenty/Limbaugh/Steele and the “moderates” (whoever they are), begin.

Meanwhile, congrats Bill and Dede.  Good job.  You helped the people of your district give the wingers (above) the royal finger.

Power to the people, not the pundits.

“Swine Flu Strikes Stars”

That would be the headline on CNN @10 20 p.m. ET.

Such is the state of our “news.”

CNN’s “Magic Wall”

Sorry CNN but we’re not impressed with what’s otherwise known as a plasma TV and a Touchpad.

Joe the Plumber Bombs in Fort Collins

Joseph Wurzelbacher flew into Colorado yesterday to rally the troops in Fort Collins (this screenshot is an ad for the gathering from FreeRepublic):

Joe the P 11-3

So, what happened?

Not much.  The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports that for all the effort, only “hundreds”  turned out.  Denver’s 9News said the same.

Is it any wonder then that someone, somewhere, has to make this “grassroots movement” look like it’s a really big deal? I mean, think of the effort and money being spent here.

Fast forward:  This is a screenshot of an email I got today  from the TeaPartyExpress.org:

So, in the end, we’re supposed to believe that Michele Bachmann’s “Super Bowl of Freedom” is a spontaneous event?

Guess so.

We’re Going to Have Health Reform By Ah, When?

By August?  Before the summer break?  By October?  By Christmas?  By the 2010 State of the Union address?

Karma: Joe (“You Lie”) Wilson’s Wife Has H1N1

I post not to wish any harm to Mrs. Wilson but because of this:  Joe Wilson’s Black Belt in Hypocrisy.

Wilson voted against funding the H1N1 vaccine.

My best to Mrs. Wilson but Joe might want to take a look in the mirror.

CNBC, Through Darrell Rovell, Reaches New Heights of Racism

CNBC has reached new heights of ignorance (and racism, I might add).  This from Darrell Rovell about the winner of Sunday’s New York City marathon.

Meb Keflezighi, who won yesterday in New York, is technically American by virtue of him becoming a citizen in 1998, but the fact that he’s not American-born takes away from the magnitude of the achievement the headline implies.

Knowing the kind of people CNBC hires, I’m willing to bet that Rovell’s a fan of John McCain who was born in the Panama Canal Zone.  Would you say the same about that white guy Darrell?

How Long Will it Take for New Jerseyans to Get Sick of Chris Christie’s Whining?

I predict that if Chris Christie, the Republican candidate for governor of New Jersey wins, it won’t take long for the citizens of that state to get sick and tired of being sick and tired of his antics.  The guy is already being obnoxious:  Christie Upset Over DNC Robo-Calls after Christie’s Two Robo-Calls Featuring Giuliani and McCain.

Also, and this is really snarky, but the vibes I get from him are that he’s a thug and a crook along the lines of Bernie Kerik.

Obama’s Campaign Promises — Kept, or Not?

The 2009 Pulitzer Prize winning website PolitiFact, maintained by the St. Petersburg Times, has a rundown of President Obama’s campaign promises.  They lay out whether there has been no action, the promise is in the works or it’s stalled.  Once a promise has been acted on, they rate whether the promise was kept, compromised or broken.  Here’s a summary and here’s a detailed list.

It’s a great website BTW.

BPA — Is it Everywhere?

Remember Bisphenol A or BPA?  It’s the compound found in some plastics (particularly, or so it was through, plastic bottles) and it mimics human hormones and can possibly lead to cancer?  Well, Consumer Reports decided to test canned food for BPA and almost all of the cans it tested were contaminated.

Here’s more.

Given the prevalence of plastic — I mean it’s ubiquitous — molecules of BPA could pretty much be everywhere.

Break Time

Ever heard of the rock formations known as the Seven Giants of the Urals?  I hadn’t either until a few days ago:

In the northern Urals, where these leave behind vegetation to become velvety hills that blend into the horizon, seven giants majestically rise. Seven stone colossi that, in the middle of nowhere, seem to have made a stop in their journey to contemplate the scenery from the top of a high plateau. With heights varying from 30 to 42 meters [98 to 137 feet], these seven moais, that nature has molded during more than 200 million years, form one of the most impressive and magic geological legacies on the planet.

They’re beautiful when covered in snow:

Let’s Make Thursday Michele Bachmann Freedom Day

Don’t worry about being let down after the excitement of today’s elections — we’ve got Thursday to look forward to people!  Specifically, Thursday at noon ET.  That’s when Michele Bachmann’s “Super Bowl of Freedom” will be held at the Capitol.

I can’t wait to see the handful, hundreds, thousands, millions of people!

I Could Scream — What is Obama Thinking?!

This little ditty snuck under the radar given all the hysteria in the “liberal media” about today’s election:  Islam Siddiqui, Obama Nominee, Under Fire from Environmentalists.

Here’s the back story:  Obama has nominated Islam Siddiqui as the US’s chief agricultural negotiator for international trade. Siddiqui is a top official from CropLife, a, or rather the, powerful pesticide-industry trade group.  (CropLife represents 60-some pesticide manufacturers.)  He has spent years fighting restrictions and bans on environmentally hazardous products; to minimize restrictions on pesticides in NAFTA, and he succeeded in exempting US farmers from a worldwide ban on methyl bromide, an antifungal and an ozone-depleter.

And, incredibly enough, the CropLife crowd is the same group that blasted Michelle Obama back in April when she decided not to use pesticides on the White House garden.  What a sin, huh?

So this Siddiqui dude, who has been marinating in pesticides for years, is going to represent the United States on international agriculture issues and in him the pesticide industry will have every square inch of the Earth’s soil at its fingertips, as sanctioned by none other than the White House.

More change you can’t believe in.  I mean seriously, this is just awful.

Right On, Right On, Right On!

I totally agree with this piece by Jon Walker over at FireDogLake about the NY-23 race.  NY-23rd:  The Failure of Blue Dogging. He writes about something that has driven me crazy for years:  The “misguided ideal among some Democrats that the only way to win right-leaning districts is by diligently staking out bland center-right positions.”

If Republicans sweep the big races today and Democrats take that as a sign that they need to back off when it comes to health care and things like “card check,” they will be making a BIG mistake.  Obama was elected to bring the change he campaigned on.  If he and his party cave and move more toward the center than they already have, they’ll not only alienate Democrats, but Independents and Republicans who voted for them as well.  If anything, they need to get back to the change they promised.

Bizarre News

Wow:  A 10-ton Japanese fishing trawler sank yesterday after catching giant Nomura’s jellyfish in its net.

Amazing.

Thought re the New Jersey Governor’s Race

Polls show that the New Jersey gubernatorial race is statistically tied between the Democratic candidate, Jon Corzine, and the Republican, Bob McDonnell.  As a former senior partner at Goldman Sachs — yes, Goldman Sachs –  Corzine effectively has a scarlet “B” scrolled across his chest, the “B” standing for Bailout, yet he stands a chance of winning.

In this day and age, when just about everyone wants to dig the eyes out of Wall Street “bankers,” the fact that Corzine is where he is says a lot.  One would think he’d be polling in the single digits or that he’d be hiding in a hole somewhere.  So don’t let the “liberal media’s” spin about how this is referendum against all-things-Obama fool you.
