Top Two Trending Topics on Twitter
It’s a crazy world out there when the top two trending topics on Twitter are 1) #hcr, meaning health care reform, and 2) #rihannasforehead.

Watching the Health Care “Debate” on C-Span
I’ve been watching the health care “debate” on C-Span all afternoon and evening (off and on while doing other things). About an hour and a half ago Michele Bachmann took the floor and talked for roughly 30 seconds, ending with: “If we do nothing else tonight, let’s choose life.” That was about the issue of whether or not abortions — which, by the way are LEGAL — should be covered. (I wonder if Viagra and/or penile implants are covered.)
Steny Hoyer talked about a 12-year-old boy who had an infected tooth that would have cost roughly $80.00 to treat, but his family couldn’t afford it. The infection ultimately spread to his brain and after a month in the hospital at a cost of $200,000, the boy died.
So what exactly does “choose life” mean around here?
Meanwhile, I don’t think there will be a vote tonight so I’m done. I can’t stand to watch that idiot winger John Bonehead anymore. If he doesn’t know the difference between the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence I don’t figure he knows much of anything.
Oh, but one think I do know: I think it would literally be torture to be in congress. How they can can stand to move at such a glacial pace is beyond me. It would drive me CRAZY.
Big Insurance Company Trade Group Comes Out Against House Health Care Bill
Citing “cost increases and coverage troubles,” the group, “America’s Health Insurance Plans” or AHIP, says it opposes the House health bill.
I they’re against it, I like it even more.
Fox Says High Unemployment is Good for America
I just watched a few minutes of “Forbes on Fox.” Host David Assman Asman and the folks from Forbes were talking about how a high unemployment rate is good for America. Their thinking? The higher the unemployment the more powerless and ineffective the awful unions* are which undermines Democrats because unions are the Democrats’ base and if the Democrats’ base collapses so do the Democrats which is good because they are destroying America.
* Unions, the people who brought us things like the 40-hour week, sick leave, lunch breaks, overtime pay, vacation time, unemployment insurance, the minimum wage and workers’ compensation insurance. You know, awful stuff like that.
Rep. Steve King’s Tea Party March On Congress That Wasn’t
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) announced yesterday that at 1:00 p.m. ET today, on the steps of the Capitol, he would, “join his Republican colleagues and Americans from across the nation seeking to have their voices heard in the health care debate for a second House Call press event. Republicans and other participants will deliver a message that the American people reject a government takeover of health care.”
I’ve been flipping between the three “news” channels — Fox, CNN and MSNBC — for 40 minutes now and haven’t seen a thing about it. I know it wasn’t cancelled because it’s still at the top of the list of the “latest headlines” on King’s website.
It must have been a bust. Maybe there was a breakdown in communication between King and David Koch.
Imagine the Uproar if Democrats Did This
GOP Representatives Pick Tea Party Protest Over National Security Votes.
Eric Cantor Apology Watch
In an interview yesterday with Bloomberg, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) said the images of Hitler conjured up by Rush Limbaugh are not “very helpful.”
The clock is ticking: How long will it take for Cantor to apologize to Rush?
Regarding Removing Abortion Coverage from the Health Care Bill
Conservatives don’t want their tax dollars going to women who want an abortion. I don’t want my tax dollars going to war. So — memo to Democrats — next time a Pentagon funding bill comes up, please take care of that. Undoubtedly the Repubs will cave to you just like you’re caving to them on abortion.
Oh, and P.S.: I’ll be post-feminist when our society is post-patriarchy.
On the Ground — 10.2% Unemployment
The few companies in hiring mode are flooded with applications: General Electric received 10,000 online applications for 90 $13-an-hour positions assembling washing machines at a plant in Louisville.
