Lou Dobbs Quits CNN — Will Join the Fox Business Network

Lou Dobbs quit CNN today.  Bye-bye Lou.  Poor guy.  Undoubtedly there was some discrimination involved.  After all, victimized white male millionaires are having a tough go of it these days.

IMHO it’s only a matter of time before we hear that Dobbs has signed on to the Fox, ahem, “Business” Network.  It’ll be a perfect fit.  You know, business news be damned — propaganda rules!

The American Medical Association Decides it Likes Pot

This is such good news.  We are wasting so much time and money prosecuting and incarcerating people for marijuana possession.  And there’s no doubt it provides relief to people with chronic pain.  Bravo to the AMA. Now, if our legislators will only catch up.

In a move considered historic by supporters of medical marijuana, the AMA voted today to reverse its long-held position that marijuana should continue to be classified under federal law as a Schedule I substance with no medical value. The organization, which is the largest physician-based group in the United States, adopted a report, “Use of Cannabis for Medicinal Purposes,” drafted by the AMA Council on Science and Public Health (CSAPH), which affirms the therapeutic benefits of medical marijuana and calls for further research.

The CSAPH report concludes that “short term controlled trials indicate that smoked cannabis reduces neuropathic pain, improves appetite and caloric intake especially in patients with reduced muscle mass, and may relieve spasticity and pain in patients with multiple sclerosis.”

Did General Stanley McChrystal Lie to the World about Pat Tillman?

Jon Krakauer was on Wolf Blitzer’s show today.  He is the author of the new book, Where Men Win Glory:  The Odyssey of Pat Tillman.   He claimed that General Stanley McChrystal, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, lied to the Senate and to the country in an effort to cover up what happened to Tillman.

Wow.

President Obama: Do Not Escalate The War in Afghanistan

Consider signing this petition asking President Obama to, “reject General McChrystal’s troop requests and begin the process of exiting U.S. forces from Afghanistan.”  And, in honor of our veterans on Veterans’ Day, watch this video of some of them explaining why:

10 States in Fiscal Peril

The Pew Center on the States is out with a new report about a number of states that are in dire fiscal trouble:

California’s financial problems are in a league of their own. But the same pressures that drove the Golden State toward fiscal disaster are wreaking havoc in a number of states, with potentially damaging consequences for the entire country.

[...]

“Beyond California: States in Fiscal Peril” makes clear that the recession severely impacted states from different geographic regions with different types of economies, tax structures and political leanings.

Pew - States in Trouble 11-11Wow.  Look at some of those budget gaps, particularly Arizona and Illinois.  This is very bad.  Invariably the states will cut services like food and shelter for the poor, school breakfast programs, mental health services, etc.  The most needy among us will suffer.

Very sad.  But hey, the Tea Partiers will be happy.

The Latest Installment of the GOP Eating Its Own

So, Republicans can’t even to talk to Democrats?

The Charleston County, S.C., Republican Party has formally censured Sen. Lindsey Graham (R.-S.C.) over his efforts to work with Democrats and other GOP moderates on a host of hot-button issues, the Charleston Post and Courier reported Wednesday.

I’d love to know their long-term strategy here.  Then again, they probably don’t have one.

Stay Classy Laura

Laura Ingraham yesterday:

“I mean Nancy Pelosi did everything but sell her own body to get this bill passed… She did everything, everything was on the table. So she had to swallow the bitter bill of the Stupak amendment otherwise this thing wouldn;t have passed.”

Elitism

Here’s a post about Maria Shriver and her daughter leaving a pile of clothes (the ones they didn’t purchase) in a dressing room at a Washington, D.C. Saks Fifth Avenue in October.

Initially I blew it off as tacky gossip but then I started thinking about it and it occurred to me that it is yet another example of how insidious the sense of entitlement is amongst a certain strata of our society.  One would think the liberal Maria Shriver, supposedly an aware, empathic woman, would 1) have better manners and 2) empathize with the lowly store clerk, probably making minimum wage, who would have to clean up after her.

Obviously not.  I think that when one travels in the upper echelon of society one becomes accustomed to certain things — like being taken care of — and that a sense of entitlement sort of creeps in without one being aware of it.

Too bad.  Maria sounds a little like a “Land Rover liberal,” the kind of person who talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.

Cruel

Yesterday conservative Republican Rhode Island Governor, Don Carcieri vetoed legislation  “that would give same-sex couples in Rhode Island the same right to plan the funerals of their late partners as married couples.”

You know, that’s just cruel.  There’s no other word for it.

If I were a GLBT person, I would be so pissed off at having to pay taxes while simultaneously being denied basic rights such as the ability to plan my partner’s funeral.  I’m almost speechless.  This is barbaric.

Fox “News” is Making Things Up Again

You’d think a “news” organization would pride itself on well, reporting the news.  You know, facts.  But no.  Not Fox “News.”  When the news — reality — doesn’t fit its agenda, it finds something that does and reports that as “news.”  As in using video from one event to portray another.

Imagine the Gargantuan Sigh of Relief

Imagine the collective, gargantuan sigh of relief we’d hear in the United States if we the people didn’t have to think about health insurance anymore.

Buying Perfume Online

QVC is hawking this product right now:

Tova 11-10

Add shipping and handling and it probably cost $25.00.

Who would buy perfume (or “1 fl oz.” of “EDP,” whatever that is) without smelling it first?  I don’t get that.

Dick Armey Looks Like He “Eats Like a Pig”

Yesterday Dick Armey, the head of Freedom Works, the organization behind the “grassroots”  Tea Party movement, said people with pre-existing conditions are people who eat “like a pig.”

Well you know, Dick Armey should look in the mirror because he looks looks like he eats like a pig.
