Elitism

Here’s a post about Maria Shriver and her daughter leaving a pile of clothes (the ones they didn’t purchase) in a dressing room at a Washington, D.C. Saks Fifth Avenue in October.
Initially I blew it off as tacky gossip but then I started thinking about it and it occurred to me that it is yet another example of how insidious the sense of entitlement is amongst a certain strata of our society. One would think the liberal Maria Shriver, supposedly an aware, empathic woman, would 1) have better manners and 2) empathize with the lowly store clerk, probably making minimum wage, who would have to clean up after her.
Obviously not. I think that when one travels in the upper echelon of society one becomes accustomed to certain things — like being taken care of — and that a sense of entitlement sort of creeps in without one being aware of it.
Too bad. Maria sounds a little like a “Land Rover liberal,” the kind of person who talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.
