Sarah Palin Reads My Blog!

After thinking about it for more than a year, Sarah Palin finally revealed which newspapers, magazines and websites she reads:  Newsmax, the Wall Street Journal, her hometown paper, the Frontiersman, and “everything online.”

I am so impressed!  Such diversity. I’ve been trying to read “everything online” for years but what with there being an estimated 156 million websites — and that stat is almost two years old — I just haven’t found the time.

Sarah is obviously an amazing, amazing woman.

It is So Wrong for the Army to Ban the Media From Sarah Palin Fort Hood Event

This is so wrong!: The United States Army is a part of our government and we all help pay for it, no matter our political persuasion.  It is charged with protecting all of us, no matter our political persuasion. It is not supposed to take sides against we, the people.  Yet the Army at Fort Hood is trying to ban the media — another critical institution in this country — from covering an appearance by Sarah Palin there on Monday.  Its reasoning?  That the event might “turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama.”

If the Army has decided to permit Sarah Palin to go to Fort Hood, fine.  I presume they’ll allow Noam Chomsky to go there too, but I’m not holding my breath.  And if the event turns into “political grandstanding against President Barack Obama,” show it.  Air it for all the world to see.  I predict something like that would be repulsive, even to some conservatives.  Think about the image:  Sarah Palin criticizing President Obama on a military base.

But my main beef is that the military — again, supposedly a neutral government entity that you and I own — has no right to restrict media access to an event like this.  What happens, happens and they’ve got to live with it.  They are not a political entity and they have no business trying to control what we know about this event.  It isn’t a matter of national security.

IMHO this indicates that the Army at least, has lost sight of its mission — again, to PROTECT AND REPRESENT ALL OF US.

Oprah Signing Off on September 9, 2011

Yo, Oprah, my 2¢:  Come September 10, 2011, if you’re looking for something to do, buy or start a 24/7 cable news network to counteract the corrosion that is Fox.

Fred Thompson — Another Flaming Hypocrite

Fred Thompson declares the war in Afghanistan ‘has been lost.”  But in 2007 when Harry Reid said the Iraq war was  lost, Thompson ripped into him for “encouraging our enemies.”

Doug Hoffman Claims the NY-23 Election Was “Stolen”

Do Republicans ever admit to just flat losing an election?  Apparently not.

Earlier today I posted about a new poll showing that 52% of Republicans think ACORN stole the election for Obama.  Now Doug Hoffman — the winger who ran in the NY-23 race — is claiming that that election was stolen from him too (this image from the Fox Nation homepage):

And one guess as to who he says stole it — surprise, surprise –  “ACORN and union interests.”  Well gosh golly gee.  That’s creative.

Convicted, Then Tried

Jonathan Turley says what needs to be said about President Obama’s and Attorney General Eric Holder’s pronouncements that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be found guilty and given the death sentence:

Today, President Obama assured Americans that they should not be offended by trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in federal court because he will be convicted and executed. I will be discussing this story tonight on MSNBC Countdown.

In an interview with NBC News, Obama said those offended by the trial will not find it “offensive at all when he’s convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him.” He then appeared to recognize the impropriety of those remarks and said that he was “not going to be in that courtroom. That’s the job of the prosecutors, the judge and the jury.”

It is highly ironic that, in defending the noble decision to grant a fair trial to these men, Obama may have crossed the line in contributing to the prejudicial atmosphere against them. It is always a bad idea for a politician to comment on cases pre-trial.

I was a paralegal in my past life.  Everyone in the legal community knows that it is entirely inappropriate for a government official to declare a defendant guilty (or not) before they have been tried, to say nothing of deciding in advance what their punishment will be.

A New Low (or is it a New High?) in Winger Craziness

Representative Louis Gohmert (R-TX), obviously striving to join the ranks of Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, suggested on Thursday “that Democrats may actually want another terrorist attack because rebuilding the city would create jobs.”
