Tweet of the Day

In fact, Bushies flipped out when three people who  attended one of their rallies in Denver in 2005 were ejected because they had a bumper sticker — yes, a BUMPER STICKER — on their car that said, “No Blood for Oil.”

But sidearms — SIDEARMS! — at an Obama rally?  No problem.

Bank Failure Friday

The FDIC closes banks on Friday hoping that by Monday it’ll be “old news,” and it works.  We never hear about this anymore (apropos of my last post titled, “This is News?“):

This is News?

I’m so happy to know that nothing more important than this is happening in the world:  The top story on the Denver affiliate of CBS News tonight was about a baby being born at 30,000 feet on a plane that eventually landed in Denver.  (Mom and baby doing fine.)

Thank God for the Internet.

Conspiracy Theory Time

Blagojevich evidence stolen from his lawyers’ offices:

Chicago police were investigating a burglary at the offices of attorneys for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich in which at least one computer containing undercover recordings from the sweeping corruption case was stolen, sources said.

The break-in took place about 4 a.m. at the law offices of Sam Adam and his son, Sam Adam Jr., in the 6100 block of South Ellis Avenue, police and Sam Adam Jr. said.

The burglars set off an alarm but escaped the area. Investigative sources said there are no suspects.

Chicago police said eight computers and a safe were taken from the office, but they could not say what information the computers contained.

This could get interesting.

Kind of Slaps You In The Face When You Take a Minute To Look

This is a screen shot of interest rates offered by one of the credit unions my husband and I belong to.  Look at how much the members pay to the credit union compared to how much they pay members.

So.  Out.  Of.  Whack.

This Certainly Isn’t the Change I Voted For

A congressional researcher is fired for criticizing Obama?

The top congressional official who oversees research on foreign policy and defense issues, including the war in Afghanistan, has been fired from his job after publishing a newspaper op-ed criticizing the Obama administration’s recent decision about bringing Guantánamo detainees to trial.

What is this?  Iran?

At the Food Bank

I spent the day at the food bank.  78 families came through between 9:20 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. “Normal” for that time period is about 26.

A local elementary school held a food drive this week and they brought in 800+ pounds of food and toiletries — half of what they collected.  So nice.  So nice too to have things like brownie mixes and flour and salad dressing and taco shells and soap and shampoo — which we don’t usually have.  But man it’s chaotic getting the bags up off the floor and the contents onto the shelves.  Fortunately we had eight volunteers today; we usually have three or four.

A special treat this time of years is giving out holiday “gift” bags (one per family per season) which contain a pie crust, canned pumpkin, etc.  We even had roughly 20 sets of Christmas lights which someone donated.

The people who come through have so little.  Their eyes literally light up — even the old peoples’ — when they get something special like Christmas lights.

It’s emotionally exhausting work in some ways but wonderful and rewarding and I love my co-volunteers.

Yo, Fox “News:” Guess Wall Street Doesn’t Hate Democratic Presidents After All, Heh?

I got this tweet this morning,

and I was reminded that I wanted to post about just that.

The Dow is up 20% so far this year and the NASDAQ is up 40%.  Looks like Fox’s lie of an assertion that Wall Street crashes when a Democrat is in the White House has been retired.   Hahahaha.
