$$ Health Care $$

I’m watching The Ed Show.  He’s broadcasting live from a free health clinic being held in Kansas City (one of the clinics arranged by Keith Olbermann).  He relayed a story about a woman who was there today so she could get a physical which she needed in order to apply for a job as a substitute teacher .  She hadn’t gotten one until now because they cost $100.00, which she couldn’t afford.  (What a vicious cycle huh?  You can’t get a job because you need a physical but you can’t get a physical because you don’t have the money because you don’t have a job.)

Meanwhile my mail just came.  I had a routine but comprehensive blood test two weeks ago and the bill was in the mail.  $854.00.  854.00 for a blood test!  It has been submitted to my insurance company so I don’t know how much I’ll have to pay in the end but think about it; if I didn’t have insurance I’d have to pay the whole thing.

My god.  There have got to be millions and millions of people out there doing without the absolute basics when it comes to taking care of their health.

We have got to fix this.
