The Obama Administration Pimps Taxpayers on Citigroup “Deal”

Yesterday I wrote about my misgivings about Citigroup reaching a “deal” with the U.S. government to repay its TARP funds.

Man-o-man.  I smelled a rat and sure enough, here it is: U.S. Gave up Billions in Tax Money in Deal for Citigroup’s Bailout Repayment.

Hum. Makes me wonder what the heck Obama was talking about yesterday when he met with them there bankers. It smells to me like Cheney’s secret meeting with the oil energy companies.

Obama in a Photo-Op With Max Baucus?

We all know that public appearances by presidents are staged to a “T.”  There are little pieces of tape on the floor showing people where they should stand and who knows, I wouldn’t be surprised, if people were told when, and when not, to applaud.

That in mind, I’m seeing pictures all over the place of Obama at a presser today after his health care meeting with Senate Democrats at the White House:

(Via.)

I can’t help but wonder who decided that Max Baucus — Max Baucus!  — one of the biggest opponents of health care reform there is — should stand directly behind Obama.

So, what to think?

I’m thinking this is change we can’t believe in.

Senate Votes in Favor of Their Handlers: Big PhARMA

Senate Rejects Low-Cost Drug Imports:

The Senate has narrowly rejected a plan to allow Americans to import low-cost prescription drugs from Canada and other countries.

The amendment by North Dakota Democrat Byron Dorgan failed on a 51-48 vote. Sixty votes were needed to prevail.

[...]

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget office has estimated that Dorgan’s plan would save the federal government $19 billion over the coming decade. Dorgan has estimated it would save American consumers four times that amount.

Tea Party Patriot “Die-In” a Total Dud

Golly gee.  There was supposed to be a big Tea Party Patriot “die-in” today at the Capitol in D.C., but I’m not seeing anything about it on the teevee.  And I don’t see anything about it at FoxNews.com either. You know if there were as little as a few hundred people in attendance they’d play with the facts and create a crowd in the “thousands”  (the number the Tea Party Patriots predicted as recently as yesterday) and splash pictures all over their homepage.  But no.  Nothing.

So, I wonder what happened.

Oh, here’s something:  A Very Gentle Die-In.  Looks like about 30 people attended.

I wonder what the TeaPartyPatriot twitter feed has to say.  nothing there either (as of 5:00 p.m. ET),  other than this sad little tweet:

Obama to Dems: Just Pass Something — Anything

Politico has a preview of what President Obama will say to Senate Democrats when they meet at the White House later today to talk about the health care bill: just pass something, anything, dammit.

And what the hell is he thinking?  He’s deluding himself if he thinks the Senate bill does this:

He will make it clear that the American people should not have to wait another decade or more for legislation that lowers premiums, reins in rising costs, and finally puts an end to unfair insurance company practices.

Ed Schultz Not Invited to the White House Christmas Party

The White House Christmas party for media people is tonight.  Ed Schultz just said on his radio show that he was not invited.

Interesting.

I oppose the idea of a White House media Christmas party because I don’t think journalists should socialize with the people they cover.  But since there is one, I would have hoped President Obama would  do everything possible to promote progressive media personalities.

Apparently not.  More change we can’t believe in.

New Air Force Ad Makes War Look Like a Whole Lotta Fun

Check out this new Air Force ad. It implies that being in the Air Force is like being in a Star Wars movie or a video game.

Inflation Fears

This is the last thing we need:

U.S. wholesale prices heated up in November, recording their first annual increase in a year and raising the spectre that inflation could be looming, labour department figures showed on Tuesday.
