Sex, Brit Hume, Sex and Fox News

Brit Hume says Tiger Woods should embrace Christianity in order to heal himself while he — Hume — lives in the cesspool of sex that is Fox “News.”  Hypocrisy defined.

Check it out.

Rill Ritter – Colorado’s Democratic Governor — Won’t Run Again

Wow.  Surprising news. (Democrats (think Dorgan) are dropping like flies.)

Obama might want to take a look at what happened to Ritter:  He had a huge base of progressive support but he governed like a DINO.  He lost the Democratic base while he tried to be all things to all people.  He pissed off unions, teachers and environmentalists but he made the corporate community happy with the appointment of Michael Bennet to replace Ken Salazar. As a result, nobody trusts him because nobody knows what he stands for.

He won’t be missed.  A Republican would be worse but maybe not all that much, which is where the Democratic party is these days.

Imagine Not Having a Home to Go to When It’s -9º

Regular readers of this site know that I volunteer at a food bank once a week.

Bearing that in mind, it’s going to be something like -9º tomorrow in my area and colder still tomorrow night.  Some of the people who come through the food bank will be out there in that.

The right would have us believe that they’re lazy slobs who like living “on welfare.”  Really?  Who in the world would chose to live like that?

Tweet of the Day

Re Byron Dorgan’s (D-N.D.) decision not to seek a fourth term, there’s this from David Sirota:

My sense is that Dorgan came to the conclusion that the fight wasn’t worth the effort.

Who Knew Goldie Hawn Was a Wingnut?

Checkout the speaker’s line-up for the Bakersfield Business Conference 2010. There she is, right next to Sarah Palin.  And WTF is Donna Brazile doing there?  Veeery interesting.

This Makes Me Nervous

I go out for a few hours and come back only to find that the Minneapolis airport has re-opened except for one baggage area, and the Bakersfield, California airport has re-opened too…after the suspicious material that shut it down turned out to be five soft drink bottles filled with honey.

Now, I know this is a dicey issue and it’s better to be safe than sorry but is it just me or do government officials seem to be almost out of control with fear?  I mean, shouldn’t they be the levelheaded, calm ones?  And what about the danger of crying wolf one too many times?

I know it’s a fine line but…

Boyfriend Jeans for Babies

This is unbelievable.  The GAP is selling “boyfriend jeans” — for TWO YEAR OLD GIRLS!

My God.  I feel so sorry for girls and young women these days.  Everything is geared toward sex, sexiness, sexuality and attracting the boys.  Now it’s starting when they’re barely out of diapers.  And what?, they can’t have a pair of comfy, baggy jeans made just for them, they have to in theory borrow them from their ah, boyfriend?

Really, really sad.

The “Health Care Reform Bill” Revealed (It Ain’t Pretty)

Here’s a long-ish but detailed and thorough article about what a total piece of shit the “health care reform bill” we’re likely to end up with is.  It’s actually scary.  The worst part is penalizing people for not buying insurance.  I didn’t realize that part of the bill was this bad:

Under the plan as it stands, everyone would be required to buy health insurance, or face a stiff fine of as much as $1200 from the IRS for a family. People earning less than 133 percent of the federal poverty level (that would currently be approximately $13,000 a year for individuals or $30,000 a year for a family of four, except in Hawaii and Alaska where the numbers are slightly higher), and less than four times the federal poverty level ($40,000 for an individual or $88,000 for a family of four), would be given a subsidy to help them buy that insurance. But they would be expected to pay as much as 12 percent of their income out of pocket for coverage, up to a limit of $5000 for an individual and $10,000 for a family. (I’m just trying to imagine how that would hit a family earning $88,000 a year. First of all, it seems clear to me that many hard-pressed families will look at the costs, just decide can’t afford it, and pay the IRS penalty.)

This.  Is.  Insane.

The author encourages states’ attorneys general to sue the government in an effort to keep some of the provisions from being implemented.  I agree.  Some of them, like the one above, just plain cannot go into effect.  They are awful.  It’s gobsmacking.  What are the Democrats thinking?

A Brief Primer on Yemen

Here’s a very short synopsis of the situation on the ground in Yemen.  Money quote: “If you think Afghanistan is a sinkhole, you will love Yemen.”

Oh, and there’s this about Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula which is based in Yemen:  “Savvy in delivering its message, the group even has its own magazine, Salah al Malahim (The Echo of Battle), which covers everything from biographies of suicide bombers to advice columns on how to become an Al Qaeda foot soldier.”

Great.

Whales

Gorgeous, up-close pictures of humpback whales in Alaska, taken by a guy in a kayak.

Wow, that an amazing experience that must have been.
