“Trapped Beneath the Rubble”

You know there’s at least — at the very least – one person trapped beneath the rubble in Haiti tonight who will be pulled out six or seven days from now.

Ugh.

Fox News Exploits Scary, Killer Black People Meme

Faux’s Steve Harrigan was on Faux News just now — Shepard Smith’s show — reporting from Haiti:   “No gunshots yet.”

There will be an earthquake like this in the United States eventually.   People will be panicked and desperate.  Hospitals will have collapsed.  Food and water won’t be available.  Rescue personnel will themselves be dead.  But you can be sure that the villans; the scary ones, according to Faux, will be everyone who isn’t white.

Sarah Palin Will Be On Oprah, Again, on Friday

I just saw an ad for Oprah Winfrey’s Friday show.  Oprah said Sarah Palin will be on to “talk about her new gig” at Faux News.

I’m thinking about how I feel about this.  Initial thoughts: Palin’s getting way too much attention for something that is, in essence, a big game.  Palin is so uninformed that the idea of her being a “contributor” at Faux is laughable.  But, Faux doesn’t care about that.  It obviously hired her just because she’s Sarah Palin — they want her face on their screen because it will generate ratings.  On the other hand, maybe Palin will say something stupid and dig her grave an inch or two deeper.

Obama Should Appoint George W. Bush To Lead Haiti Relief Effort?

The ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation suggested today that President Obama should appoint George W. Bush to lead a “bipartisan” rescue and relief effort in Haiti:

The U.S. government response [in Haiti] should be bold and decisive. It must mobilize U.S. civilian and military capabilities for short-term rescue and relief and long-term recovery and reform. President Obama should tap high-level, bipartisan leadership. Clearly former President Clinton, who was already named as the U.N. envoy on Haiti, is a logical choice. President Obama should also reach out to a senior Republican figure, perhaps former President George W. Bush, to lead the bipartisan effort for the Republicans.

You know, because he handled Katrina so well.

Proof That Republicans Will Criticize Obama No Matter What He Does

Remember just after Christmas when the Republicans criticized President Obama because he didn’t speak out (1) soon enough, and (2) forcefully enough after the attempted airplane bombing in Detroit?  Well, now they’re criticizing him for speaking out too soon after the earthquake in Haiti.

Nude Pictures of Senator Scott Brown

The Newshounds wonder why nude pictures of Scott Brown, the Republican who’s running for Ted Kennedy’s old seat in Massachusetts, aren’t plastered all over FoxNation.com (or Faux News, for that matter).  If the tables were turned they should would be.

Pat Robertson is One Sick Psycho

Pat Robertson says Haiti brought the earthquake on itself when it made a “pact with the devil.”

He’s also an ignorant idiot.  He really should read up on Haiti’s history.  It was doing pretty well before the United States started screwing around with it.

Jeez.  The Rapture can’t come soon enough.

Put Your Money Under the Mattress

Apropos of my post about savings account interest rates (such as they are), there’s this:  A Good Case for Putting Money Under the Mattress:

To translate, what [Lloyd] Blankfein [the CEO of Goldman Sachs] is saying here is that Wall Street brokers really don’t have any greater responsibility than used car salesmen, and if they can convince someone — a professional, he clarifies — to buy a lemon, well, joke’s on them, and the seller wins that round. This is just a game to these guys. Trouble is, they all played so badly that the entire country — even those with no interest in Wall Street investing — suffered the fall.

Focus on the Family Embraces Glenn Beck

Just over a year ago, Focus on the Family shunned Glenn Beck because he is a Mormon.  They consider Mormonism to be a cult.

But not so anymore!

It’s Time for the Powers That be in the Democratic Party to Wake Up

The outcome of the vote next Tuesday to fill Ted Kennedy’s vacant seat in Massachusetts is going to be very interesting indeed:

Boston-based Democratic consultant James Boyce tells TPM that the Massachusetts Senate race is a harbinger of November  for Democrats: “The fact that we’re even discussing the possibility of a relatively unknown [Republican] state senator filling Ted Kennedy’s seat shows me they are underestimating the problems they are facing in 2010.”

(Come on Massachusetts!  You can’t let a Republican take Ted’s seat.)

Poor Haiti

I can’t stop thinking about what the people in Haiti are going through right now.  And I can’t get this image of a half-buried woman out of my mind.  I wonder what has happened to her.

Sarah Palin as a Pundit

It is truly stunning how ignorant Sarah Palin is:

“Palin”—this is a quote—“Palin couldn‘t explain”—this is getting ready for her big debate with Biden—“couldn‘t explain why North and South Korea were separate nations.”  She had no idea what the Korean War was, apparently, never heard of it.  “She didn‘t know what the Fed did, the Federal Reserve did, that it‘s our central banking system.  They asked who attacked on 9/11, and she suggested several times it was Saddam Hussein.”

John McCain should be brought up on some sort of criminal charge — negligence? — for thinking she was capable of being our vice president.
