“Arguing for a Living”
I don’t watch Oprah in the summertime because I’m outside but I do tend to watch the reruns this time of year because it’s cold and the show is on at 4:00 p.m. my time, when it’s getting dark and I’m winding down.
Anyway, Rosie O’Donnell was on today and she said something that really hit me. She was talking about the circumstances surrounding her leaving “The View,” and she said the reason she did was because she “didn’t want to argue for a living.”
Think about that. What kind of person enjoys arguing for a living? Arguing has its place of course but imagine revving up to go to work — I’m lookin’ at you Sean and Bill and countless other “journalists” — where you’ll spend your time arguing with people.
Pretty darn sicko when you think about it.
Seeing Red
Some thing are so unspeakably unjust and unreasonable and barbaric that they leave on speechless:
A 16-year-old girl who was raped in Bangladesh has been given 101 lashes for conceiving during the assault.
Break Time — Books
The 10 strangest books in the English language.
Yep, strange, but weird and delightful too.
Nazis Afraid To Say They’re Nazis
Six members of the “National Socialist Movement” in Brighton, Colorado have joined the Adopt-a-Highway program and agreed to remove trash from a one-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 85. In turn, the highway department put up a sign proclaiming that the “National Socialist Movement” is responsible for that particular stretch of highway.
Problem with this is — in my opinion — “National Socialist Movement” is a nice and extremely misleading way of saying Nazi. What are they ashamed of? Why don’t they stand tall and call themselves what they are?
(I tried to access their website a few minutes ago but it is down — either intentionally or unintentionally.)
Tweet of the Day
This sarcasm from Peter Daou:
What Kind of Food Are They Serving at This Banquet?
I’m on the Tea Party Nation’s email list and I just received an email from them saying that,
It has come to our attention that many of our members thought the entire [Tea Party Nation] convention was sold out, including the Banquet with Gov. Palin. While full convention tickets are sold out, we still have a limited number of Banquet Only tickets still available for purchase.
They provided a link to purchase banquet-only tickets. Here’s a screen shot:
$349.00 plus a $9.71 fee to attend a banquet? What the heck are they going to serve? Oh, that’s right: Sarah Palin. But again, $350+ to attend a banquet? Some “grass roots” movement, heh?
More on Citizens United
E.J. Dionne Jr. is out with a great summary of what Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United means.
My favorite line:
Requiring chief executives to appear in ads their corporations sponsor, exactly as politicians have to do. (“I’m Joe Smith, the chief executive of Acme Consolidated Megacorporation, and I approve this message.”)
Chitting on Our Vets
Veterans put their lives on the line but we don’t pick up the phone when they call?
Shame.
