Senior Suicide: Descending Into Hopelessness
The suicide rate among seniors is extraordinarily high. To draw attention to that fact, the Israeli advertising agency Shimoni, Finkelstein, Draftfcb created this chilling photograph to illustrate that suiciding can be a long, slow, and indescribably painful journey.
Very moving.
Stand With The Green Movement In Iran Tomorrow
This from Global Voices — The world is talking. Are you listening?
Iran’s Green Movement is ready to defy the Iranian regime with protests once again – this time during the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution on 11 Februrary (22 Bahman). During this week the Iranian State will celebrate the day that marked the end of the Iran’s western-backed monarchy and the beginning of an Islamic republic. According to news reports from inside Iran, internet access, email, and text-messaging services have been disrupted the past days in advance of the protests.
Here’s more about the “complex logistical scheme” that is being implemented to divert “the eyes of the international press confined to designated areas within the square” away from the protesters. “On the early hours of Thursday morning, the plan is to fill the space with die-hard supporters while checking the bags and pockets of the others wanting to gain entry to the protected zone to make sure they don’t carry any Green paraphernalia.” … “Along these lines, one should not expect severe and massive attacks on protesters on Thursday, at least not until the regime loyalists have left the premises. That would be roughly by 2 pm or thereabouts.”
Texas: Go Ahead, Secede Already
Texans keep cheering about seceding, so why don’t they get ‘er done? Their governor, Rick Perry, is in favor of it so what’s the hold up?
Go for it! Model your state after the mess your winger friends have made of Colorado Springs, the nation’s new hell hole.
Scaredy Cat Democrats
Rev. Al Sharpton on Hardball just now: “Why are we running when they lost the election?”
Good freakin’ question and I want an answer before I die. I watched John Kerry and the Democrats run from the Swift Boaters in 2004 and now I’m watching (and have been for a year) Democrats running from marginalized Republicans. I can’t tell you how sick of it I am.
Bank of America Just About More Powerful Than God
A hacker steals $50,000 from a man’s Bank of America account and BofA tells him the loss is his problem, not theirs.
What an outrageous story. But, what with Citizens United, I don’t suppose there’s any chance laws that allow them to do this will ever be changed.
Flippin’ Through the Years
The Magazine Publishers of America and the American Society of Magazine Editors put this two minute video together that tells the history of the last ten years via magazine covers. Pretty cool.
Magazines are on their way out so this may be the last time we see something like this.
Should We Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran?
Here’s a list of the great thinkers chicken hawks who think we should.
Love This Headline
Father of Sarah Palin’s Grandson on Playgirl Cover.
The picture reminds me of Scott Brown’s in Cosmo. Hey, is Levi contemplating a senate run?
The Unemployment Rate by Income
Rich people are doing pretty darn well, but look at the numbers for the poor and the huge difference between the two:

New Mexico Tells Big Banks to Shove It
New Mexico’s House of Representatives voted Monday to pass a bill that allows the state to move $2 billion – $5 billion of state funds to credit unions and small banks.
The municipal funds bill was approved 65-0, and is subject to a vote by New Mexico’s Senate. Governor Bill Richardson told the bill’s sponsor that he supports the legislation.
All the states should do this.
Climate Change
The mid-Atlantic is getting more show than it’s ever had before and Vancouver just experienced the warmest January on record.
