Beware of Giving Little Kids Hot Dogs

Here’s an interesting factoid: Pediatricians are asking the hot dog industry to redesign the shape of hot dogs because they are a leading cause of food-related asphyxiations in children:
“The FDA is concerned about the deaths and serious injuries caused by choking.” Hot dogs are a prime offender, accounting for 17 percent of food-related asphyxiations in children under the age of 10, according to one study.
This is not good but I just can’t quite imagine a square hot dog.

I’m the mother of a 3 year year old. She eats a hot dog almost everyday. The solution is very simple. Stop being lazy & cut up the hot dog. It’s just that easy. My child eats them while standing, walking & (against my wishes) occassionaly jumping & she has never choked.
