So Now the Postal Service is a “Socialist Monopoly?”

Just heard Thom Hartmann interview Tad DeHaven of the libertarian Cato Institute.  The topic of discussion was the financial plight of the United States Postal Service, which, as you know, grew out of the Pony Express of 1860.

DeHaven’s argument, of course, insofar as he is a libertarian, was to privatize the P.O. and too bad if you live in an area where mail delivery costs more than in another and too bad if regular service to say the boonies of northern Wisconsin or Maine is nonexistent. Finally, as he signed off, he took at dig at Hartmann for wanting the Post Office to remain “part of the commons,” when he said Hartmann was supporting a “socialist monopoly.”

Man, it won’t be long before police and fire departments are “socialist monopolies” too.
