MLB — Boycott the Arizona Diamondbacks

Given the legally sanctioned terrorism that tan people in Arizona are experiencing, it’s time to boycott all things Arizona, including at least — at least — one Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game.

Urge ML baseball to take a stand.  Contact MLB if you can find a way to do so (I can’t — they don’t want to hear from us), and/or follow the discussion on Twitter.

Issac Mizrahi Claims His Tote, “Bounces Light Off Your Face”

Isaac Mizrahi is on QVC right now hawking a nylon tote made in China that sells for the outrageous sum of $123.00:

My problem with this is (1) the fact that Mizrahi and QVC are advertising the bag as “patent,” and (2) the price. When we think of “patent,” we think of patent leather (Mizrahi and his cohorts know that), but it isn’t leather, it’s patent nylon. And another thing per Isaac himself, live on the show, the bag “bounces light off your face.”

Yeah.  Right.  I believe that.

How about this cute thing from Target?  $9.99.

Bottom line?  Don’t get ripped off!

Scott Roeder Whines That His Rights Have Been Violated

Scott Roeder blew Dr. George Tiller‘s brains out.  He slaughtered a perfectly healthy 58-year-old man who could easily have lived into his 80′s and who had a wife, four children and ten grandchildren.  Now Roeder has the freakin’ balls to complain  — get this –  that his rights have been violated.

WHAT?!!  Seems to me Dr. Tiller and the 15 members of his immediate family (not to mention his extended family) might have a thing or two to say about that insanity.

The Discovery Channel Hearts Glenn Beck

Apropos of my last post (which you’ve gotta read in order for this to make any sense), Glenn Beck said that burning “garbage in my backyard with styrofoam” would be a good way to celebrate Earth Day:

Glenn Beck, who argues that climate change is a scam, doesn’t think to highly of Earth Day, saying: “Happy Earth day…I’m going to burn garbage in my backyard with styrofoam.”

Boycott the Discovery Channel — it Supports Glenn Beck

The Discovery Channel owns Animal PlanetThe Learning Channel (TLC), the Science Channel, PlanetGreen.com, TreeHugger.com, Discovery Health, the Military Channel, PetFinder.Com, and the Discovery Kids channel, to name but a few of its mega-holdings.

Yet despite Discovery’s faux progressive bent, it airs ads on Glenn -I hate just about everyone- Beck’s show:

What?  Does not compute.

Don’t be fooled by Discovery’s faux progressive slant.  Wolf in sheep’s clothing and all.

Make some noise:  Contact Discovery.  This has gotta stop.

Kiss PBS Goodbye: Jon Meacham to Replace Bill Moyers

Bill Moyers, one of the greatest progressive journalists this country has ever known, is leaving PBS. His “Bill Moyer’s Journal” will be replaced by “Need to Know,” hosted by Newsweek’s Jon Meacham, “a consummate purveyor of middle-of-the-road conventional wisdom with a conservative slant.” The guy’s a corporatist (and a frequent guest on “Morning Joe,” I might add).

You never saw Bill Moyers on the corporate media because he wasn’t for corporations.  But you can bet Meacham will be all over the place.  He will be identified as a “liberal” because he’s from PBS and everyone will crow about how they’re “fair and balanced” because they have him on.

Sad.  Really, really sad.

I stopped watching PBS a long time ago because of shit like this.  When they started airing ads I knew it was over.

Fox is Trying to Start a War Between “Taxpayers” and Unions

I happened to click on Fox “News” earlier today and to see a chyron that read something like, “Taxpayers Take On Unions Over Pay and Pensions.”  Turns out, Fox is trying to start a war between non-union workers, i.e., “taxpayers,” and union workers (who apparently don’t pay taxes).

THIS IS A FOX NEWS ALERT:  Don’t buy this bull crap, it’s bass ackward.  We shouldn’t vilify union workers because they make high reasonable salaries and in some cases have pensions.  We shouldn’t fight to knock them down to the lower wages and fewer benefits most of us get.  We should turn our attention to the damn corporations and fight them; fight them to match what union workers make so we’ll all be better off.

My God, union workers aren’t the enemy.  Corporations who have kicked unions out so they can pay lower wages are the enemy.  What we need is to organize more unions — let’s lift people up instead of bringing them down — because we need unions to fight for us in the face of mega-corporate power.

Fox doesn’t care about you.  Fox wants you — its viewers — to help, once and for all, bust up the last of the remaining unions so corporations are free to run roughshod over everyone in this country.

Wake the hell up people!

Imagine the World as a Village of 100

Love this:

If the world were a village of 100 people, how would the composition be? This set of 20 posters is built on statistics about the spread of population around the world under various classifications. The numbers are turned into graphics to give another sense a touch – Look, this is the world we are living in.

See the 22 other posters at the link above.
