Shirley Sherrod — The Uncut Version

You can be sure this uncut video of Shirley Sherrod’s speech to the NAACP (24-years-ago, by the way) won’t be shown on the Republican-controlled media near as often as Andrew Breitbart’s version has been:

Shame, SHAME! on the Obama administration for caving to crazy propagandists and firing this lovely woman.

What happened here — over the last 24-hours — is frightening. A propaganda organization (Fox, Breitbart) that makes no bones about its intentions — to bring down the Obama administration and “liberals” and “progressives” and “Democrats” and to promote the interests of the elite — intimidated the President of the United States (D) into firing a good and decent woman who emphasizes with poor working Americans.

Undoubtedly Fox and Breitbart are feeling like they rule the world right now, and, hey, face it – they do.

So, if you love Faux News and Andrew Breitbart and oh, say, Drudge, vote for a “Democrat” in November. Democrats answer to them.

Tony Hayward Ready for His Golden Parachute

The Times (of London) is reporting that BP CEO Tony Hayward is preparing to “stand down as early as next month.”

I’d like to think he might suffer a bit but undoubtedly his “severance pay” and golden parachute will be enough to feed and house Gulf coast fishermen for decades.

Obama Commits “Political Malpractice”

Good points here from Digby about the White House throwing Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, under the bus because Glenn Beck was going to begin trashing her after winger Andrew Breitbart cut and pasted a scandalous video about her:

After ACORN and now this, I really have to wonder if the Democrats and Brietbart aren’t actually working together on a whole Sistah Soljah campaign. It’s a little bit hard to see why anyone over 10 years old would fall for the same ruse over and over again. (Hey, maybe their focus groups show that simply alienating liberals isn’t going to impress those swing voters so they need to alienate the black vote too…)

But I also have to wonder if they know what the optics of this are. If two-bit sociopathic wingnuts can scare them to this extent with obviously doctored videos, what happens when they see a real threat? Are they going to flap their arms like penguins and run around in circles screaming “they’re coming to get us, run for your lives!!?” At this point, that doesn’t seem entirely ridiculous.

Seriously, this shows tremendous weakness. Andrew Brietbart is a con artist and and right wing entertainer whose antics should always be met with a cynical laugh and a shake of the head. To fall for his schtick more than once is political malpractice.

Agree 100%. This is shocking. Very disconcerting to think the likes of nuts like Beck and Breitbart scare the White House so much.
