Look at this beaut – a 310 mph “Maglev Monster:”
Wow. It reminds me of the space race only this time, we’re losing.

Wow :)
But it doesn’t seem safe to me for a train (or any other vehicle or mode of transportation, for that matter) to be going at 310 miles per hour.
310 mph seems highly excessive and unsafe speed for anything, and it seems to me like this would increase the potential for horrific accidents and crashes…
Regarding the issue of such excessive speeds being unsafe, I heard that NASCAR recently decided to reduce the maximum allowable speeds that the cars were capable of going during racing, even though the cars were mechanically and structurally capable of producing even higher speeds.
The NASCAR officials apparently decided that the risk of accidents and crashes was too great at such high speeds, and decided that safety was a greater priority over increasing the racing speeds of the cars.
In my opinion, this just goes to show that just because we are capable of producing a technology that can go at such high speeds, it doesn’t mean that such a technology is beneficial and/or should be utilized regardless of the potential for safety issues and concerns.
Just because we can go faster does not necessarily mean that we should.
I’m sure that when they built the Ford Model T, 20 or 30mph seemed a highly excessive rate of speed to them, but 310mph is just too darned fast of a speed for anything to go, in my opinion. :)
