Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.

I remember my father attending marches in Bloomington, Indiana during the civil rights movement in the 1960′s. I remember my parents being afraid of repercussions as a result of their activities, like a brick tossed through the front window or a bomb under their car.  That kind of thing happened back then folks.  White people who thought African-Americans should be treated equally were thought of as traitors, insurgents and terrorists.

I remember the day Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.  So I think it’s repulsive that K-Mart is commemorating “MLKDAY” with a money-making sale.  Nothing could be farther from what Dr. King fought for and nothing could be farther from what those who rallied with him stood for:

This is just shameful.

Can’t disagree at all, only sigh. Assuming the viewer is a Christian, the same is equally true of Easter Sales and the Christmas Season. If you lost loved ones in war Memorial Day Sales must bring a pang of loss or anger. Actually, can’t think of a sacred observance that isn’t honored with a sale of some kind.

So I’m gearing up for Valentine’s Day ~ it’s right in the middle of my son’s, my wife’s and my birthdays.

Love your site. All the best.

This why the SEARS / KMart operation is havig so many problems. They are tacky, insensitive and moronic. If ever there was a dayto simple say, “We want to take a minute to address humanity and to say thank you to a minority leader who showed us that we can be civil to each other without ulterior motives,” this was it.

Perhaps, in its present direction, Sears / KMart won’t be with us for much longer. In all likliness, they will simply be bought by a foreign intererst. It presents again the question,’what’s too big to fail?’ Maybe it also presents the answer, where some really big things need to be destroyed when they stop serving the intended purpose.

The only way to kill a Sears / KMart is to boycott them permenantly unless they not only apologize for comercialzing the MLK Day Holiday, but make a commitment to underwriting American culture. Would that put thousands more people out of work? Yes, it would. Would it help address the issues that we face where the insensitive understand the impact on the nation? Yep, that would do it as all they understand in hits to thier pocketbooks.
