Pollster: Gingrich Has a 64% Chance of Winning in South Carolina Tomorrow

I can’t stand the minute-by-minute speculation and spin the 24/7 cables are engaged in this election year (ugh, and it’s only January), but I am interested in watching the Republican party deal with the mess they’ve gotten themselves into.

Apparently the establishment wing has decided Romney’s their guy, but you’ve gotta love watching them squirm over his screw-ups, especially during the last week or so.  And now that Santorum has been declared the winner in Iowa, it’s, well, funny actually, to see how they’re backtracking on the narrative that Romney is off to such a great start while trying their best not to give Santorum any airtime.  And now we have this new info from Nate Silver over at FiveThirtyEight, whose predictions were mind-blowingly accurate during the 2008 campaign:

So sweaty old Newt has a 64% chance of winning South Carolina tomorrow.  Wow.  If he does, the Grand Old Party will be at its wits end.  It will be so fun to see what they do.  Will they try to strike some sort of deal with Newt so he’ll drop out, you know, for the good of the party and all that?  Newt doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to go along with that and at the same time, I don’t sense the honchos in the party are all that enthusiastic about Mitt anymore either so how much pushing and shoving are they willing to do on his behalf?

So, again, if Newt wins, I can’t wait to see what happens.

My gut tells me New Jersey Governor Chris Christy will enter the race at some point but I can’t envision precisely how that would happen (what are they going to do, send the four guys above to Siberia?)

Anyway, as it stands, Newt looks to be heading for a win.  Buckle up.
