Rick Santorum Could Win Colorado
I live in Colorado.
I haven’t seen a single pro-Romney ad this year.
Rick Santorum is close to “winning” the caucus here tonight (@10:28 p.m. ET*).
Grassroots Republicans in this state could pull this off, unswayed by a gazillion dollars worth of campaign propaganda that puts lipstick on a pig.
Take that Romney.
* What’s with calling this race people? The polls closed 90-minutes ago.
Remember When Interracial Couples Where Ostracized?
I was raised in a very liberal family but I’m old enough to remember when seeing the occasional interracial couple walking down the street or in a restaurant hit like a bolt of lightening. People turned and watched and snickered and whispered.
I remember feeling so much respect for them though. Talk about guts!

Now of course, interracial couples actually appear on the teevee and in the media in general. Corporations pay them millions of dollars in endorsements. That would never have happened back then.
I’m looking forward to the time when I can write a post like this about gay marriage.
Colorado Cop Pulls Over Car With Dog Crate Strapped to the Roof
OMG, this is great.
Police Stop Dogs Against Romney Protester for Having Dog Crate on Car Roof
This image says it all. A Dogs Against Romney Pack Member was stopped by the Littleton, Colorado police yesterday for having a dog crate on the roof of his car. The Pack Member, identified only as ”Oredigger,” was on his way to protest at a Mitt Romney event yesterday with the crate atop his car carrying a stuffed toy dog when the police officer, believing he was actually transporting a live dog on the roof of his car, stopped him. Says Oredigger, “I was pulled over for suspected animal abuse.”
This clearly illustrates how blatantly awful, incredibly dangerous, outrageously insensitive – and even illegal – Mitt Romney’s decision to transport his own dog on the roof of his car was.
But Romney still blows it off: The dog was “comfortable;” he “liked it.” Yo Mitt, that’s because the dog trusted you to take care of him and he had no idea of the danger he was in, you idiot. Geezus. Outrageously insensitive is right.
Oh, and P.S. Bravo to that cop.
“Liberal” WaPo Columnist Didn’t Learn From The Mistakes He Made in Run-Up to the Iraq War
In March of 2008, the “liberal” Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen was asked to write about the mistakes he made in supporting the invasion of Iraq:
In the following days, as the horror started to be airbrushed—no more bodies plummeting to the sidewalk—the anthrax letters started to come, some to people I knew. And I thought, No, I’m not going to sit here passively and wait for it to happen. I wanted to go to “them,” whoever “they” were, grab them by the neck, and get them before they could get us. One of “them” was Saddam Hussein. He had messed around with anthrax; he had twice started wars in the region (Iran and Kuwait); he had massacred the Kurds and the Shiites; used chemical weapons (no doubt about that); had had a nuclear weapons program (also no doubt about that); and was violating U.N. resolution after resolution (absolutely no doubt about that, either). Saddam was a sociopath, a uniformed button man, Luca Brasi of Arabia. He was a nasty little fascist, and he needed to be dealt with.
That, more or less, is how I made my decision to support the war in Iraq. It did not take me all that long, however, to have second thoughts—and I expressed them in my column. It was clear that Saddam was unconnected to Osama Bin Laden, that Iraqi intelligence had not met with Mohammed Atta in Prague, and that while Iraq once had a nuclear weapons program, it no longer did. That left chemical and biological weapons, and neither represented much of a threat.
[...]
I was not only unprepared for the revelation that Iraq had no WMD whatsoever, but—even more stunning—that such seasoned hands as Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Colin Powell, to name just three veterans of past presidencies, would prove so cosmically incompetent.
In his column today, Cohen repeats the same mistakes: America’s red lines in the sand on Iran: “The ultimate remedy is Iranian regime change. … This looming crisis is not only about Israel. It’s about America, too.”
The “liberal” media is jumping on the war bandwagon. Last night Chris Matthews on MSNBC said, If you can’t think of anything worse than Iran with a nuclear weapon, “Strike ‘em.”
About The Republican Reaction to Obama Taking Super PAC Money
This would be our Tweet of the Day, which pretty much sums up what Republicans are saying today about President Obama’s decision to take super PAC money:
California’s Prop 8 Shut Down
Great news:
A federal appeals court Tuesday struck down California’s ban on same-sex marriage, clearing the way for the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on gay marriage as early as next year.
The 2-1 decision by a panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals found that Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure that limited marriage to one man and one woman, violated the U.S. Constitution. The architects of Prop. 8 have vowed to appeal.
The ruling was narrow and likely to be limited to California.
“Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California,” the court said.
The ruling upheld a decision by retired Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who struck down the ballot measure in 2010 after holding an unprecedented trial on the nature of sexual orientation and the history of marriage.
In a separate decision, the appeals court refused to invalidate Walker’s ruling on the grounds that he should have disclosed he was in a long term same-sex relationship. Walker, a Republican appointee who is openly gay, said after his ruling that he had been in a relationship with another man for 10 years. He has never said whether he and partner wished to marry.
The bolded sentence above is my added emphasis because I love it. Prop 8 was legislation that codified discrimination and hate.
Here is the text of the decision.
Little Girl Donates $30 in Birthday Money to Food Bank
I just got an email from the Emergency Family Assistance Association, the food bank where I volunteer.
They recently received a card containing $30 from a little girl:
Dear EFAA, I collected this money at my birthday party. Please use it to help needy families. From, Kira B.
Thank. You. Kira!
Karen Handel Quits Komen Foundation
(Reuters) – A senior advisor to the breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure has resigned in the wake of a public outcry over the group’s decision to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, which provides birth control and abortion services.
Karen Handel, a Republican who once ran for governor of Georgia on a platform calling for defunding of Planned Parenthood, has stepped down from her role at the top U.S. breast cancer charity, the organization confirmed on Tuesday.
Here is a copy of her resignation letter.
She’ll probably slide into a high-powered, high-paying job at a conservative D.C. think tank, like the American Enterprise Institute or the Heritage Foundation.
Time-Lapse Fungi Growth
A time-lapse video of fungi growing? Sounds strange, I know, but take 28 seconds out of your day and watch it. It’s beautiful!
18 hour time lapse movie of the fungus Pilobolus sp. growing on dung. Images taken at 2 minute intervals.
