Dick Cheney Had a Heart Transplant Today

Dick Cheney had a heart transplant today:

Former Vice President Dick Cheney had a heart transplant Saturday and is recovering at a Virginia hospital, his office said.

An aide to Cheney disclosed that the 71-year-old, who has had a long history of cardiovascular trouble including numerous heart attacks, had been waiting for a transplant for more than 20 months.

Gosh golly gee.  Two things come to mind:  (1) I hope he’s thanking We the People for paying (yikes, socialized medicine!) his bazillion dollar medical bills since the 1970s and (2) maybe this transplant will actually, you know, give him a heart.

U.S. Military Sending in One Insane Chart

If we continue to increase military spending, or if we leave it as it is, we deserve what we get:  teacher shortages, crumbling infrastructure, privatized police and fire departments, no money for this and no money for that:

There are Hoodies and There Are Hoodies

I was watching Melissa Harris-Perry’s show this morning when she made a great point:  that there are hoodies and there are hoodies.  Some people might think an African-American male wearing a dark sweatshirt-type hoodie on a dark night is a scary thing.  But Harris-Perry said this is the kind of hoodie that frightens her:

What Harris-Perry said hit me right between the eyes. I realized I’d been thinking of sweatshirt-type “hoodies.”  I realized that ever since the conversation about Trayvon Martin began, all we’ve been talking about is that kind of hoodie.  An image of the “hoodies” above hadn’t entered my mind.  So thanks Melissa for making me realize that African-American males who wear hoodies don’t have a corner on the market when it comes to “hoodies” frightening people.

Pure Joy

There are a lot of videos out there of dogs welcoming their soldier “parent” home, but the dog in this video seems to me to be particularly expressive and joyful and fun to watch.  It brought a smile to my face.
