Here is Trayvon Martin’s family watching this afternoon’s press conference announcing charges against George Zimmerman.
UPDATE @ 6:33 p.m. ET: Trayvon Martin’s family is holding a presser about the filing of charges. MSNBC and CNN are airing it. Fox isn’t.
This would be my tweet of the day:
Eric Bolling is Fox’s up and coming chief propagandist when it comes to “business news.” Here is a sample of the garbage he was pumping out when I monitored Fox at the Newshounds. Notice how he downplayed high gas prices back then because, guess what, George W. Bush was in office. Here is more current info from Media Matters. The guy is a real piece of work.
Believe me, this “energy special” will be pure hooey. I can tell you what the gist of it will be in one sentence (they should change the title): [It's Obama's Fault That You're] Paying [So Much] at the Pump. Expect lots of
propaganda “specials” like this on Fox between now and November.
Check out the staging at this event in Wilmington, Delaware yesterday and then tell me Republicans aren’t worried about women voters. And oh yeah, that war on women thing never happened. It was made up by Commie Democrats.
Unfortunately, this is happening(or rather, not happening):
The Obama administration has all but abandoned its push to require federal contractors to disclose their political donations.
A year ago, the White House composed a draft executive order that would have forced potential government contractors to reveal their political spending as a condition of submitting bids. But roughly 12 months later, no final order has been issued, and supporters and critics alike say they’ve seen no signs such a change is forthcoming.
“The executive order can potentially come back after the 2012 elections,” said Craig Holman, lobbyist for Public Citizen, a government watchdog group that has been urging the greater transparency. “But I don’t consider it still being contemplated [now].”
Holman said Obama sent clear signals the issue has been pushed to the backburner in January when the president declined to pitch it in his State of the Union address.
“Obama neglected to even mention it,” Holman said with disappointment. “I consider it not to be even on the agenda.”
Government contractors, including huge defense contractors and for-profit corporations that receive our tax dollars spend money on lobbyists just like other companies. They’re buying influence. I think where that money — their “political donations” — goes should be a matter of public record because whose to say we aren’t subsidizing those funds?
The bottom line here is it looks like they’ve bought a politician, again.
I like quizzes so here’s a quiz from Pew:
Thirteen easy questions. You’ll get them all right, especially if you’re a news junky like me.
Go here to take it.
Whoever thought this up is a genius:
You probably heard that the wingnuttiest wingnut of them all, Congressman Allen West (R-FL), said yesterday that a good number of Democratic congresspeople in D.C. are Communists.
Here’s a follow-up:
This just goes to show that there is no such thing as a boring town hall when Republican Congressman Allen West is speaking. At a town hall in Jensen Beach Tuesday covered by TCPalm, a man asked West this question (this is the best we could make out in the video) “what percentage of the American Legislature do you think are card-carrying Marxists (something garbled) Socialists?”
West’s reply: “That’s a good question. I believe it’s about 78 to 81 members of the Democratic Party are members of the Communist Party.”
PolitiFact asked West’s spkeswoman [sic] Angela Melvin for an explanation today: “The Congressman was referring to the 76 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The Communist Party has publicly referred to the Progressive Caucus as its allies. The Progressive Caucus speaks for itself. These individuals certainly aren’t proponents of free markets or individual economic freedom.”
We read that response to Jennifer Gore, a spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, a Democrat from Minnesota who co-chairs the caucus. Here’s a snapshot of what she said: “all of that is false.”
Posing in front of a flag doesn’t make you a patriot Mr. West. But lying does make you a liar.
