Rick Warren Shits on President Obama

Obama, what were you expecting when you asked conservative gay-hating Rick Warren to give the invocation at your inauguration?  A Kubayah moment when we’d all come together?

Huh?  Have you had enough of that drug yet?

Obama Boxed In Regarding Same Sex Marriage

This happened today:

Image via TheBlaze.com

Four former chairs of the Democratic National Committee called on the party on Wednesday to embrace marriage equality in the 2012 Democratic platform.

“We are proud that the Democratic Party fights for working families, economic justice, and equal opportunity for all,” said Howard Dean, Donald Fowler, Steve Grossman and David Wilhelm in a joint statement. “Times change but our principles must always remain strong. That is why, as former chairs of the Democratic National Committee, we stand with Freedom to Marry, 22 Democratic senators, Leader Nancy Pelosi, and more than 35,000 Americans in urging the Party to include a freedom to marry plank in the platform that is ratified at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte this September.”

I have a gay brother so I’m totally on board with this but what will Obama do?  Will he endorse this or not?  If he doesn’t, he’ll disappoint his party and he’ll look like an antiquated chicken shit.  If he wants to or does, his “advisers” will fret about the supposedly all-important independent vote.

I say go for it.  I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for this country to move into the 21st Century.  Geezus.  We’re like a nation covered in dust and soot.  Time to shake it off.  Not only that, the people who are against same sex marriage are already against Obama so their vote isn’t going to be influenced by what he does here.

I’ve read study after study, and this holds true for me too, that shows people respect folks who take a stand and stick to it, even if that stand is risky or deemed to be unpopular (usually by the corporate media and Washington-types).

Go for it Obama!  You know it’s the right thing to do.  Show some guts.  Show there’s a difference between the two parties.

Obama Speaks the Truth, Fox Has a Fit

Ah, yeah (the headline on FoxNation right now):

I think we can all agree that that’s true.  Supreme Court justices are unelected.

But no.  Fox is freaking.  This is from the accompanying article:

President Obama hosted a North American summit with Canadian Prime Minister Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon today at the White House.

During this summit, the President commented on the recent Supreme Court hearings on his signature healthcare law.

Obama remains ‘confident’ that the law will be upheld and felt he had to remind ‘conservative commentators’  that for four years they complained of ‘judicial activism’ and that an ‘unelected group of people’ would overturn a ‘duly constituted and passed law’ , a scenario he compared his healthcare fight to.

That’s a perfectly legitimate comment but what Fox is freaking out about is that it goes against the meme it has been pushing for years: Liberal judges are the only ones who engage in “judicial activism.” Conservative judges “uphold the Constitution.”  What with Bush v. Gore and Citizens United, it has to reconfigure that propaganda.

What to do?  Deal with the facts?  Hey, we’re talkin’ Fox here folks. The facts aren’t on their side so option #2 is attack, attack, attack, attack Obama.

Be dumb.  Watch Fox.  They count on it.

What Would Republicans Do Without Obamacare to Kick Around?

Last week during the Supreme Court oral arguments about repealing “Obamacare,” Thom Hartmann had a guest on his show from Forbes magazine, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten.  (Per Hartmann’s “show notes” for Monday, March 26, 2012 it was probably Rick Ungar but I can’t swear to it.)  Anyway, Thom’s guest was pretty darn adamant that the Supreme Court wouldn’t repeal it because Republicans need it like they need gays, guns and God, to dangle in front of their moronic voters to get them to the polls.  I thought that was a valid and plausible point.

It’s tragic in a way though because that would mean the Republicans on the court are totally politicized, but nonetheless, it really stuck with me.  Along those lines, FYI, I just came across this concise post which talks about:  The GOP’s Repeal and Replace Fraud.

It should be required reading for anyone who’s planning on voting GOP this year.  (Hint:  They think you’re stuck on stupid, waiting for dumb to come.)

Obama: Millions (More) for Israel

Let’s cut education, trash our roads and bridges, watch Americans die for lack of health care and oh, btw, turn off the street lights but hey, there’s always money for “defense.” Israel’s that is:

The Pentagon said Tuesday it will request funding to expand Israel’s “Iron Dome” short-range air defense system, which helped thwart rocket attacks out of Gaza earlier this month.

The United States spent $204 million on the Iron Dome system in fiscal year 2011 and the Pentagon did not specify what level of funding it would propose to Congress for additional batteries.

“The Department of Defense has been in conversations with the Government of Israel about US support for the acquisition of additional Iron Dome systems and intends to request an appropriate level of funding from Congress to support such acquisitions based on Israeli requirements and production capacity,” press secretary George Little said in a statement.

You go Obama.  The hope is gone.  I’ve been clinging to the change thing but that’s going down the drain too.

What will it take for an American president (to have the guts) to say ENOUGH when it comes to funding the defense budgets of other countries, when we spend an absolutely outrageous amount on our own?

Seriously.  When is ENOUGH a ENOUGH?

Poor Olympia Snow, She Wishes President Obama Had Given Her More Attention

I like to think people in the United States Senators are grownups but ah, I guess not:

So Olympia Snowe, in an extraordinary act of candor, has confessed that she’s really upset with President Obama for not calling her often enough during the past two years. She says Obama deserves a failing grade when it comes to his willingness to work with Republicans — and that things would be far better if he had tried harder.

Tried harder?  Read the rest of the article.  Greg Sargent sets forth all the things Obama did to coddle the likes of Olympia Snow and all the things she did to put roadblocks in his way.

What did she want Obama to do so her widdle feewings wouldn’t be hurt?  Phone calls as well as flowers and candy and sleep-overs?  Geezus.  This is the grownup real world people.

Memo to Maine:  Please elect an adult to replace

Snow.

The Head of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center is a (Gasp) Muslim

This is going to make some heads explode.  I mean, it’s confirmation that Obama The Muslim is trying to destroy our “Christian nation!”

Further discrediting the anti-Muslim propaganda is the fact disclosed yesterday by the Washington Post that the long-serving head of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center–the architect of policies which have sent countless jihadists to an early grave in drone strikes–is himself a Muslim. He converted after marrying a Muslim woman while serving abroad.

The Post quotes CIA Director David Petraeus as saying, “No officer in the agency has been more relentless, focused, or committed to the fight against al-Qaeda than has the chief of the Counterterrorism Center.” The fact that the officer in question is a Muslim should hardly be cause for comment–except to the extent that it unsettles some objectionable assumptions about where most Muslims supposedly stand in the battle against violent extremists.

Conservative Blogger Didn’t Think This Picture Would Offend Anyone

Holy cow:

Former John Locke Foundation blogger Tara Servatius has issued the statement below about her use of an image of President Barack Obama dressed in gay fetish wear and high heels with a bucket of fried chicken.

Servatius, a former conservative radio host in Charlotte, resigned from the Locke Foundation’s Meck Deck blog this morning.

“I am genuinely sorry my inclusion of the photo along with my blog post has caused controversy for the John Locke Foundation.

“If it has offended anyone, I sincerely regret that. That was certainly not my intention and I would feel awful if that was the case. It was meant to illustrate Obama’s southern political strategy, nothing more. An honest reading of the piece itself shows there is nothing offensive in it.”

[...]

“Regrettably, I didn’t think about the racial implications of the picture when I posted it. I simply don’t think in those terms. Unfortunately some people do. To me, fried chicken is simply a Southern Cuisine.”

This is the image:

She “didn’t think about the racial implications of the picture” because she doesn’t “think in those terms?”  What?  We’re supposed to believe she doesn’t have a speck of racism in her body?  In all seriousness:  Is she blind?

Karl Rove: Any President Would Have Killed Osama bin Laden

Karl Rove is trying to rewrite history while simultaneously making President Obama look like an empty suit:

As for the killing of Osama bin Laden, Mr. Obama did what virtually any commander in chief would have done in the same situation. Even President Bill Clinton says in the film “that’s the call I would have made.” For this to be portrayed as the epic achievement of the first term tells you how bare the White House cupboards are.

Excuse me.  George W. Bush was president for eight years while bin Laden was on the run and he didn’t get him.   As a matter of fact, Bush blew a huge chance to do so:

(Via.)

And that’s the one big chance Bush blew to catch or kill bin Laden that we know of.  There could have been many others over the course of Bush’s two terms.

So again, for Rove to claim “any president” would have done what Obama did — when his guy had eight years to do so but didn’t — is just typical Rove slime.

Fox News Kills?

Via Facebook / Tracy Knauss

Today I posted an image called “Fox News killed my mother.” Because it did. It was the most widely circulated image I’ve ever posted. But, after about and hour I could no longer read any of the comments. Still can’t. And some of you have messaged me to say you can’t see it. So here it is again. This time, my explanation will be in the first comment instead of here. Basically my mother fell and refused to go to the doctor because she was afraid that “Obamacare” would get information about her and use it in their “death panels.”

Plaintiff in Anti-Obama Health Care Lawsuit Went Bankrupt Due to Medical Bills

The irony and hypocrisy here are so thick you would have to cut them with a chain saw:

Mary Brown (via the Wall Street Journal)

Mary Brown, a 56-year-old Florida woman who owned a small auto repair shop but had no health insurance, became the lead plaintiff challenging President Obama’s healthcare law because she was passionate about the issue.

Brown “doesn’t have insurance. She doesn’t want to pay for it. And she doesn’t want the government to tell her she has to have it,” said Karen Harned, a lawyer for the National Federation of Independent Business. Brown is a plaintiff in the federation’s case, which the Supreme Court plans to hear later this month.

But court records reveal that Brown and her husband filed for bankruptcy last fall with $4,500 in unpaid medical bills.

[...]

The central issue before the Supreme Court is whether the government can require people to buy health insurance. Under the law, those who fail to buy insurance after 2014 could face a fine of up to $700.

See what I mean?  The irony and hypocrisy is staring Brown smack dab in the face but she doesn’t get it.  The new health care law is designed to prevent precisely what happened to her.

Not only that, she’s “passionate” about not being forced to buy insurance but she has no problem discharging her $4,500 debt and letting the rest of us pick up the tab.

What a moral and ethical icon (she compares herself to Rosa Parks), standing for fairness and justice with nothing but the purest of principles driving her.

Geezus.

G-8 Summit Moved From Chicago to Camp David — Out of Fear of Protests?

In what I suspect is a reaction to the potential for huge demonstrations,

The G-8 economic summit will be held at Camp David, not in Chicago as had been scheduled.

The White House announced the change in the following statement:

“In May, the United States looks forward to hosting the G-8 and NATO Summits. To facilitate a free-flowing discussion with our close G-8 partners, the president is inviting his fellow G-8 leaders to Camp David on May 18-19 for the G-8 Summit, which will address a broad range of economic, political and security issues.

[...]

Chicago police estimated that 2,000 to 10,000 demonstrators were expected to show up for the overlapping G-8 and NATO summits.  At least two major demonstrations were already planned for downtown during the summit, and organizers said they wanted to send crowds of marchers down Michigan Avenue in the middle of the day.

Some people involved in the planning of the summits in Chicago were stunned by the news and said they had no advanced warning of the change in plans.

If I’m right, congrats to We the People.  Fear of protests is a good thing.

Obama’s No Different Than Bush When it Comes to Bombing Iran

June 19, 2007:  Bush Says All Options on Table on Iran:

U.S. President George W. Bush reiterated on Tuesday that all options were on the table in dealing with Iran’s nuclear challenge.

March 4, 2012:  Obama: All Options Remain on the Table to Prevent a Nuclear Iran:

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Sunday that the entire world has an interest in preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, and that all options remain on the table to keep Iran from going nuclear.

Interesting huh, that the “imminent threat” of Iran getting a nuclear bomb has been going on for five years?

Democrats and progressives freaked out when W talked about bombing Iran but that isn’t happening now that Obama’s saying the same thing.  The hypocrisy is astounding.

Have Republicans Forgotten That Women Have the Right to Vote?

What with Republicans going off their rocker regarding oppressing women of late, this Sandra Fluke “slut” fiasco is not a good thing for them.  But, they don’t seem to give a sh*t:

President Obama called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke thanking her for speaking out on the contraception law — especially after Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” on his radio show, Huffington Post reports.

Said Fluke: “He encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women. What was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents that they should be proud.”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told Greg Sargent she was surprised that Republican leaders had yet to condemn the comment: “They won’t disassociate themselves from it. They’re tattooed with that.”

Craig Crawford: “You almost have to wonder whether the Republican Party has forgotten women have the right to vote.”

They remind me of the gang of kids who become more and more vicious in the book, Animal Farm.  No one’s in charge, they try to one-up each other and they don’t care how inhuman, cruel or uncivilized they have to be in order to do so.

Awe, Scott Walker Has Stomach Flu

Today was going to be an interesting day in politics:  President Obama is going to Wisconsin to speak at a Master Lock factory (a unionized workplace) and anti-union, hated, corrupt Governor Scott Walker (R-Koch) was going to be there by his side.  The contrast between the two was going to be stark and watching the body language was going to be so much fun!

But alas, Walker, ahem, has stomach flu so he had to bow out.  His handlers probably told him he would look like a worm next to Obama so better that he stay home.

Obama to Propose Cutting Corporate Taxes

OMG.  Is this Obama talking or is this Obama under the influence of Citizens United talking?

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama, who has angered businesses with his plans to close corporate tax loopholes, is expected to call for cutting the top 35 percent corporate tax rate as early as this month, according to two sources close to the administration.

The president is likely to propose a rate close to an average of peer nations, the sources said.

Good thing it’s Friday.  This is the kind of news that makes me want to take my head off and set it down for a while.
