Except they didn’t totally dream it up. I had that for dinner at scout camp 30 years ago although instead of dorito dusted shells it was all the fixings over a snack-size bag of Doritos. I use as a birthday party dinner – kids love tacos in a bowl!

Thanks all. It has been a long time now so the pain isn’t nearly as raw as it was in the beginning of course, but one thing is for sure, you never have “closure” on the death of a loved one.

I kind of see it as the pain and sorrow being in a room that, in the beginning, you live in all the time. Over the years, that room is still there but you go into it less and less often, though when you do, the pain hasn’t really diminished. But, you can leave and close the door more often than in the beginning.

Well, the prudent thing to buy would be something like $25.00 worth of Top Ramen at 10 for a dollar or pork and beans at roughly 67c a can if and when you can find it at that price. But, the thing is, those things are staples at food banks and I feel so sorry for the regulars, at our food bank at least, because they see that kind of thing week after week, after month after month. So again, that’s why soy sauce or A1 sauce or salad dressings are such a treat.

I would suggest maybe some cans of a “fancy” vegetable, like artichoke hearts. Green beans and canned corn are the boring norm. Or maybe something like Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Our food bank rarely has ice cream but it rarely has chocolate milk too so if chocolate syrup was available, kids could have chocolate milk and what kid doesn’t love chocolate milk? That would be a real treat.

Tooth brushes are another coveted item as is tooth paste. Several times I’ve asked my dentist if he would donate a few boxes of those little toothpastes they give out when you have a cleaning and he has.

Thanks for your insight. I never think of donating items like A1 or soy sauce when there is a food drive. I donate cash to several organizations, but I do like to pitch in when local groups have collections. Any other suggestions? I’d really like to know what I should buy with, say, $25.
