Hey Youse — What Does How You Speak Say About You?

Here’s a fun “quiz:”  the Harvard Dialect Survey.  Answer 25 questions (there’s no right or wrong) and see how the way you speak and the words you use places you in the country (the U.S.).

The test results tell me I’d fit right in in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska and Wichita, Kansas.  What?  How in the world did that happen?  I’ve never been to Wichita and all I’ve ever done is drive through Omaha and Lincoln via I-80 (as in, fast).

Again, go here to discover your inner hick (or not).

No surprise to me ~ I fit right in to the West/Left Coast perfectly. It’s no wonder the Brits can’t understand me. Actually, it’s my attitudes and ideas they don’t understand. As for my accent, they say it’s “soft” compared to other Yankees they know.
    Happy New Year.
